Subaru is doubling down on hybrids in the Philippines, and this time, it’s one of the brand’s most recognizable nameplates stepping into the electrified era. Set to make its local debut at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), the new Subaru Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid signals the Japanese marque’s continued push toward electrification while staying true to the formula that made the Crosstrek popular among loyal Subaru buyers in the first place.
At first glance, the newest hybrid crossover doesn’t stray far from the rugged personality Filipinos have come to associate with the Crosstrek. It still carries the raised ride height, chunky body cladding, and compact proportions that helped the model carve out its niche among urban drivers looking for something more adventurous than a typical crossover.
Underneath, however, is where the bigger story lies. The Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid combines a 2.0-liter boxer engine with an electric motor and battery system as part of Subaru’s e-Boxer setup. The system is expected to produce around 154 hp and 196 Nm of torque while retaining Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and X-Mode terrain management features.

Unlike some hybrid crossovers that prioritize efficiency above all else, Subaru appears intent on preserving the Crosstrek’s all-weather and light off-road capability. Ground clearance remains at 220mm despite the addition of hybrid components, a figure that still puts it among the more capable crossovers in its class.
The electrified powertrain also allows limited low-speed electric-only driving under certain conditions, while promising improved fuel efficiency compared to the gasoline-powered Crosstrek currently sold in the country.
Inside, the hybrid model gains several modern features expected in today’s tech-focused segment. These include an 11.6-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charging pad, and an updated EyeSight driver-assistance suite with additional safety technologies.
The upcoming Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid could represent an important middle ground — offering improved efficiency without abandoning the all-wheel-drive character and outdoors-oriented image that continue to define the brand. Local pricing and final specifications are expected to be revealed during its official unveiling at PIMS 2026.
Autocar’s Take
The Subaru Crosstrek has always occupied a unique space in the Philippine market. It was never the cheapest crossover, nor the most fuel-efficient as observed by many who have experienced it long-term. But buyers still appreciated it for offering genuine all-wheel-drive capability wrapped in a compact, city-friendly package.
Now, with the arrival of the hybrid version, Subaru seems to be addressing one of the biggest concerns many Filipinos had about the Crosstrek: fuel consumption. The move also comes at the perfect time, with hybrids rapidly becoming more accepted among local buyers who want better efficiency without fully committing to EV ownership.
What makes the Crosstrek Hybrid interesting is that Subaru didn’t completely change its personality just to chase economy numbers. It still keeps the high ground clearance, AWD system, and outdoorsy character that helped the model stand out in the first place.
