The Geely EX2 is currently the best-selling car in China this year, as it sits at the top of the sales chart from January to August 2026, according to a report published by CarNewsChina.

From January to August 2026, the Geely EX2 recorded 266,166 units sold, making it the best-selling car in China so far. Trailing behind the Geely EX2 is the Tesla Model Y, which posted 226,931 units sold, while the Li Auto i6 completes the current podium placers with 152,842 units sold. Of note, the top three best-selling cars in China from January to August 2026 are all battery electric vehicles (BEV).

The Geely EX2 is showing its dominance in the Chinese market. In fact, the EX2 clinched the top spot in China’s August 2026 sales report. The EX2, according to the data shared by CarNewsChina, posted 39,651 units sold, which is ahead of its closest rival in August, with the Leapmotor A10 yielding 30,652 units sold. The Tesla Model Y occupies the third spot in August sales, as it finished with 29,260 units sold. Again, all top three cars are BEVs.

The EX2’s strong sales performance supports Geely’s previous claim that it is one of its most popular models. Previously, Geely said that the EX2 posted cumulative deliveries of 500,000 units in just 14 months after launch. This is said to be the fastest among BEVs launched in China from 2024 to 2025. The Geely EX2 has also been launched in Brazil, Indonesia, and Thailand. In Brazil, the car brand noted that the EX2 ranked second in local electric vehicle sales just 16 business days after launch.

The Geely EX2 is now also available in the Philippines, and it rivals the likes of the BYD Seagull and the GAC Aion UT. It is built on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, measuring 4,135mm long and 1,805mm wide, along with a wheelbase of 2,650mm.

It is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor that generates 114 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque. The Geely EX2 is integrated with a 39.4-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that promises up to 395 kilometers of NEDC-rated range. It also features DC fast charging, where it can charge from 30 to 80 percent in about 25 minutes.

Autocar’s Take

The EX2 is proving to be one of the most popular models of Geely, as it is smashing the sales charts in China. It currently sits at the top of the sales chart in China with 266,166 units sold from January to August 2026, and its closest rival is the Tesla Model Y, which posted 226,931 units sold. Of note, the top-selling cars in China are all BEVs, which shows that vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE) are no longer the preferred option in the Chinese market. In fact, the first ICE car in China’s August sales is the Toyota Corolla, which occupies the 13th spot, with 14,675 units sold.
