Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has announced a bold move as it approaches Q2 of this year. Case in point: the company recently welcomed Hidekazu Arai as its new president, effective April 1, 2026.
Arai succeeds Rie Miyake, who will be taking on a new role at Honda Motor Co., Ltd. The leadership change comes as HCPI continues to strengthen its position in the Philippine automotive market while aligning with the brand’s global direction towards carbon neutrality and other means of cleaner mobility.
Bringing nearly two decades of international experience, Arai most recently served as Chief Administrator of the Business Planning Department at Honda’s global headquarters in Japan. His career also includes significant roles at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and the Saitama Factory, where he gained extensive exposure in key fields such as manufacturing, planning, and operational strategy.

His appointment at HCPI emphasizes value-driven growth, with a focus on refining business practices and enhancing overall customer experience. With a background in finance, business planning, and electrification strategy, Arai is expected to guide HCPI through an evolving automotive landscape, now shaped by technological advancements in electrification and future-focused innovations.
Under his leadership, HCPI aims to deliver more high-quality products while ensuring competitive value for Filipino consumers. The Japanese company also intends to strengthen its market presence through improved operational efficiency and customer-centric initiatives.
The leadership transition also comes at a pivotal time for the automotive industry, as manufacturers continue to shift toward electrified mobility solutions and more sustainable business practices. Arai’s expertise in electrification strategy is seen as a key asset in aligning HCPI with these global trends.
Miyake’s role at HCPI was one for the books. With her guidance, HCPI was able to achieve a notable milestones, including the solidification of Honda’s electrification ambitions in the country, the launch of the One Honda Safety program aimed at improving road safety for Filipino motorists, the launch of the Honda Kids on Safety program for educating the youth about the importance of road safety, among others. Miyake’s term also brought in new Honda models such as the Civic RS e:HEV, the recently launched CR-V e:HEV, and the highly anticipated local debut of the new Honda Prelude hybrid sports coupe, first seen at HCPI’s 35th anniversary celebration last December 2025.
Autocar’s Take
Firstly, we would like to commend Rie Miyake for elevating HCPI to a level it enjoys today. With her leadership, HCPI’s success in the past three years was marked with notable achievements in pushing for better road safety. She also paved the way for bringing future-focused Honda technologies closer to Filipinos, most especially the e:HEV system, which secured HCPI’s direction toward electrification in the Philippines.
Moving forward, Hidekazu Arai will fill in the big role, and his appointment signals a strategic shift for HCPI at a time when the industry is undergoing rapid transformation. His background in electrification and global operations aligns strongly with Honda’s long-term sustainability goals as a mainstream car manufacturer. For the Philippine market, this could translate into more forward-looking products and improved value propositions.
Leadership changes often set the tone for future direction, and in this case, the emphasis on planning and efficiency may help HCPI remain competitive. The real measure, however, will be how quickly will these strategies translate into tangible benefits for local customers.
