VinFast brings EV access closer to drivers in Caloocan

Vietnamese car brand VinFast is redefining the role of automotive dealerships in the Philippines by aligning its retail spaces with mobility hubs. Take, for instance, its newly opened showroom in Caloocan, the brand’s 30th showroom in the country. Here, VinFast Philippines showcases more than just its growing lineup of battery-electric models.

VinFast Caloocan is strategically located along EDSA Balintawak, a major transport corridor that links Metro Manila to North Luzon via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). The chosen location allows the brand to reach more customers, given the area’s high traffic density and the community’s growing interest in cost-effective mobility solutions.

Inside, visitors are introduced to VinFast’s full range of EVs, from compact city-focused models to larger SUVs suited for family or commercial use. But beyond the vehicles themselves, the dealership experience has evolved into something more consultative.

Specially trained personnel guide customers through practical concerns regarding EV ownership. These include driving range in heavy stop-and-go traffic, charging options within urban areas, and cost comparisons with traditional fuel-powered vehicles. This approach aligns with a growing understanding of the local EV industry today – EV adoption requires more than just product availability, as it also demands education, reassurance, and flexible ownership pathways.

Recently, VinFast Philippines has expanded this customer-centric concept by introducing a rental program through its dealerships in Metro Manila, including its new Caloocan dealership. Designed primarily for ride-hailing and transport service drivers operating in high-density areas such as EDSA and nearby commercial zones, the program lowers the barrier to entry by replacing large upfront payments with a modest deposit and fixed daily rental rates. This allows drivers to start operating an EV without the financial strain of outright ownership.

Operating costs are also addressed through ecosystem support, including access to a partner charging network offering free charging incentives for an extended period. For drivers covering significantly long distances from Metro Manila, VinFast claims that the savings compared to gasoline expenses can be substantial, helping stabilize income.

Lastly, for those who prefer ownership, VinFast says financing options remain available, structured to align with the income patterns of transport operators. By presenting both rental and purchase models, VinFast dealerships enable customers to evaluate options based on real-world financial considerations.

Autocar’s Take

VinFast’s strategy of engaging its dealership customers beyond just selling brand-new units shows a clear understanding of where EV adoption needs to start locally. Placing the Caloocan dealership along the EDSA-NLEX corridor puts the conversation right in the path of high-mileage drivers who stand to benefit most from lower operating costs.

The addition of a rental model makes the transition more realistic, especially for those who rely on daily income from transport services. While infrastructure gaps still need to be addressed, initiatives like this bring electric mobility closer to everyday use, instead of looking at it as some kind of future concept.
