Vietnamese company Vingroup has extended its “Trade Gas For Electric” campaign in the Philippines and other key markets. This move gives consumers ample time to transition to electric vehicle (EV) mobility amid rising fuel costs affecting many regions globally.

The program, which now runs until April 30, 2026, helps ease the burden of fluctuating gasoline prices while encouraging the adoption of EVs. It covers such markets as Vietnam, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The program includes incentives for customers shifting from internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered vehicles to EVs, particularly from VinFast’s EV lineup.

Under the extended campaign, buyers of VinFast EVs will get an additional 3% discount on cars and 5% on motorcycles. These incentives can be combined with existing promos, making EV adoption more accessible and valuable.

Beyond vehicle ownership, Vingroup is also maintaining incentives within its electric mobility services. In select Southeast Asian regions, trips using electric ride-hailing platforms such as Xanh SM in Vietnam and Green SM in Indonesia and Laos will continue to enjoy a 10% fare reduction. Given the positive turnout in these regions, it will be a matter of time before VinFast Philippines adopts this program to benefit users of its Green GSM EV ride-hailing services.

Currently, Green GSM Philippines offers its Green Points (GP) system, wherein users can earn and redeem 15 GPs for instant discounts on rides, with 1 GP equivalent to P1. Moreover, first-time users are also given 500 GPs as a welcome offer, which can be used up to seven times from the first booking.

“The emergency support program encouraging the transition from gasoline to electric vehicles, launched in March, has delivered timely solutions and created strong momentum for hundreds of thousands of customers to choose VinFast electric vehicles as their companion for upcoming green journeys. Extending the program will not only provide more customers with the opportunity to go green, but also directly contribute to reducing fuel consumption, reaffirming Vingroup’s social responsibility and commitment to the community,” said Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Global Sales at VinFast.

Autocar’s Take

Vingroup’s extension of its Trade Gas For Electric program is timely, especially given the unpredictability of fuel prices. The added discounts may seem modest on paper, but when combined with existing promos, they make electric mobility more attainable for everyday buyers.

But what shines here is Vingroup’s gentle, gradual approach, pairing its vehicle services with discounted ride services. This angle introduces more people to EVs without requiring immediate ownership. Consumers are allowed to experience EVs through mediums such as the Green GSM EV taxi service, letting them think it over or enjoy the EV experience first before deciding whether or not to get an EV or trade in their gasoline-fueled cars for VinFast EVs.

That exposure matters. While infrastructure and charging access still need improvement, especially in the Philippines, programs like this help normalize the shift. The momentum is building, and initiatives like these are pushing it forward.
