Brembo has unveiled a new brake caliper that is designed specifically for heavy-duty pickup trucks and large sport utility vehicles, compatible with both trucks with internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. Dubbed Boldika, it marks Brembo’s entry into the heavy-duty truck market.
Brembo said that the Boldika is the most powerful brake caliper it has ever produced for passenger car applications, “combining muscular performance with a distinctive style.” The new Brembo caliper will launch first with a Brembo disc on the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST Stars and Steel Edition this year. It will then become available to additional trucks and SUVs moving forward.
The Brembo Boldika is claimed to deliver over 8,500 Nm of braking torque, giving drivers of trucks and SUVs strong braking power, whether they are carrying heavy cargo or towing a trailer. To be able to achieve this, Brembo shared that it used a unique three-piece construction. The caliper is primarily made of lightweight aluminum, and it applies Brembo’s proven cast-iron central bridge concept to a six-piston structure. Brembo noted that this construction increases stiffness, delivering greater braking power, while reducing weight compared with a fully cast-iron alternative.
Brembo North America President and CEO Stéphane Rolland expressed that the Boldika delivers greater safety and driver confidence.
“Brembo’s new caliper is an adaptable new solution for large trucks and SUVs regardless of powertrain, bringing Brembo braking performance to new segments such as heavy-duty pickup trucks. Boldika is sure to deliver greater safety and driver confidence through improved braking precision and less fade, while offering the iconic Brembo design with customizable color options,” Rolland said.
Aside from its stopping power, the Boldika is integrated with Brembo Enesys zero-drag technology, which pushes the brake pads back to their resting position after braking, reducing residual brake torque. It can also eliminate unwanted friction, allowing the pad to extend its lifespan.
The Brembo Boldika caliper is compatible with 20-inch and larger wheels. The company said that this is a key packaging advantage for truck and SUV applications that are often used for towing or off-road driving.
