Aside from the all-new Juke EV, the Xterra hybrid SUV, and the new X-Trail, Nissan confirmed that a new Skyline is on the way and will be sold for the Japanese market. This means that the V37 Skyline will soon make its overdue sunset as it has been in the Japanese market since 2014.
Nissan announced that a new Skyline will be arriving during its Vision event, held at the company’s global headquarters in Japan. It was also during the event that Nissan shared its revamped product strategy, which involves reducing the number of Nissan models from 56 to 45.
The Japanese automaker plans to do this by discontinuing low-profit models and strengthening investment in growth areas. Nissan will be dividing its model categorization into the following:
– Heartbeat Model: A model that embodies the essence of Nissan, representing the brand’s emotional value and innovative spirit.
– Core Model: A model that supports the business through global scale and stability.
– Growth model: A model that drives the expansion of new demand.
– Partner Model: A model that expands market coverage through disciplined collaboration.
The new Skyline is set to be Nissan’s Heartbeat Model for the Japanese market. Meanwhile, the Xterra SUV is also the automaker’s Heartbeat Model for the United States.

Nissan said the Skyline is a driver-centric vehicle that delivers high performance and effortless control. It also symbolizes Japan’s advanced engineering, and Nissan aims to keep the Skyline as a vehicle that “continues to innovate with its driving performance and captivating appeal.”
Nissan released official teaser images and a video for the new Skyline. As with almost all teasers, it does not give away much detail about the upcoming product. But, from the images and video that Nissan shared, it suggests that the new Skyline will come with a boxy or angular body, as well as the absence of the typical Nissan logo or emblem.

The teaser hints that the new Skyline could come with a pair of aggressive-looking headlights that are mounted on an angular housing. The teaser also suggests that the new Skyline could have a slim front grille, while having a prominent bumper.
The new Nissan Skyline is also set to have round taillights, and we could also see that it could most likely come with a chiseled side profile, along with a Skyline emblem. On the other hand, Nissan has yet to share more details about the new Skyline, such as its powertrain options.
Autocar’s Take
Nissan has confirmed that a new Skyline is on the horizon as a Japanese-only model as of this writing. The new Skyline joins other upcoming Nissan vehicles such as the all-new Juke EV, the Xterra, and the X-Trail. As such, it looks like Nissan will be busy in the coming years.
Nissan’s revamped product categorization is also a nice move to streamline its model lineup, which would allow the car brand to target key markets more effectively and efficiently. This is no different when creating a menu for a restaurant, as less can sometimes mean more. Meaning, having fewer but well-curated product lineup could yield better sales results.
