Chery revealed an SUV Concept called 6=1, which can transform into a pickup truck, among other things, embodying what a versatile, functional vehicle should be. The said vehicle was showcased at the 2025 Chery User Summit in Wuhu, China, an event attended by Omodo & Jaecoo.
Chery said its new SUV is the world’s first 7-seater transformable multi-SUV. Yes – it is a pickup and an SUV at the same time, perfect for those who are indecisive about the two body types. It is designed based on feedback gathered from research across markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, and Thailand. The Chinese car brand has assembled an international team of 20 product experts to review and analyze feedback from individuals in key markets.
This approach is similar to what Ford used when designing the current-generation Ranger pickup truck. The Blue Oval brand also conducted extensive customer research into what makes a great pickup truck. From there, it has taken all the positives and integrated most of them into the current-gen Ranger.
Chery wanted to do the same as it values what its customers think when it comes to new vehicle development. Chery International Marketing Center Executive Deputy General Manager Zheng Songzhi said that the brand “firmly [believes] that only by working together with our customers, we can develop and create excellent products.”
The seven-seater Transformable Multi-SUV is centered on the concept of “space freedom,” introducing a “6=1” configuration. This concept features a flexible seat configuration and a quick-release rear panel or rear hatch design.
Chery showed three configurations during the event. Among those is the vehicle’s capability as a seven-seat SUV, featuring a 2,900mm wheelbase and a 69.5 percent space utilization rate, ensuring ample room for every passenger to relax.
When you need to transport an assortment of items, Chery’s Multi-SUV can transform into a pickup truck that features 600 liters of cargo volume. It also features versatile anchor points that easily accommodate everything from surfboards and camping gear to everyday loads.
The third option is to switch the multi-SUV to eco-camping mode. In this mode, Chery explained that the vehicle comes equipped with an intelligent power system, a side awning, and insect-proof features, delivering a complete, ready-to-go solution for outdoor adventures. Chery added that the multi-SUV has a 700mm wading depth, allowing you to drive through almost any terrain.
For now, the Chery 6=1 is still a concept that may or may not reach production. If so, would Filipinos want this in their garage?
