2024 TGR Philippine Cup Final Showdown happens at Clark this weekend

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is gearing up for an electrifying finale to its motorsports season with Race Weekend 3 of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup) on November 9 at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. This final race weekend promises to be the most thrilling yet, as it will crown the season champions of the annual racing series.

The event is free to the public, and attendees can take advantage of a complimentary shuttle service running from SM Clark to Clark International Speedway and back. Shuttles will operate every hour from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, races will be streamed live on the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Facebook page, beginning at 9:00 AM.

The action-packed weekend kicks off with Sprint Races across the Novice, Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting classes. Racers will earn points based on their performance, and the competitor with the highest points at the end of the three race weekends will be declared the season victor.

The Novice class will see the return of previous Autocross racers Reph Bangsil and Lexi Mendiola, along with media racers Jamil Lacuna, Jose Altoveros, Pablo Salapantan, and John Rey San Diego, as well as sim racer Russel Reyes. TMP President Masando Hashimoto will also be back on the track, driving the Vios OMR – the one-make-race car used in the series. Currently, Reyes leads the Novice class standings, with Lacuna and San Diego close behind.

In the Sporting and Super Sporting classes, team TGR Philippines racers Ryan Agoncillo and Troy Montero are poised to face off against some of the country’s top racing talents. TMP also remains committed to fostering young motorsport enthusiasts, selecting new entrant Will Lucas through a driver tryout to compete in the Sporting class.

The Super Sporting class is currently led by Iñigo Anton of the Toyota Balintawak – Obengers Racing Team, followed by Russel Cabrera of Team Toyota Cebu in second and Red Diwa of JBT Racing / Toyota Isabela in third. Jiro Garbes of Inbox – Toyota San Fernando heads the Sporting class, with Jarond Mesina of Team Toyota Cebu and Danzel Waytan of JD Motorsports – Ribbon Arc in second and third places, respectively. In the Promotional class, Bong Garbes of Inbox – Toyota San Fernando is in the lead, with Julia Delos Angeles of Toyota San Jose Del Monte, Inc. – Obengers Racing Team in second and Rex Abrenilla of Team Toyota Cebu in third.

After the sprint races, the car club track day will allow GR performance car owners to experience the thrill of the speedway with their GR Supra, GR Yaris, and GR 86. Fans will be treated to an exclusive showcase of these high-performance vehicles. Additionally, professional drifters Dane Cruz and Hans Jimenez will wow the audience with a drifting exhibition using the GR 86. A few lucky spectators might even get a chance to ride shotgun for a hot lap in the GR Yaris or GR Supra.

The excitement continues with the season’s final Endurance Race, where drivers in all classes will face a grueling 1.5-hour circuit challenge. Points from this endurance event will be crucial in deciding the overall champions.

Beyond the track, visitors can try their hand at sim racing at the TGR GT Cup experience booth, check out sponsor booths for exclusive products, or participate in games for a chance to win prizes. Official TOYOTA GAZOO Racing merchandise will also be on sale.

“It’s the last race weekend of the season, so we are working to make it the most thrilling one yet. We have a lot of activities lined up, both on track and in the activity area, so we hope fans can come and experience the FUN TO DRIVE spirit with us,” said TMP Vice President for Marketing Services Elvin Luciano.
