The Tesla Model S and Model X could not be arriving locally, as the American electric vehicle (EV) company announced that it has ended the production of the two models. As such, Tesla Philippines could continue to offer its current model lineup, which includes the Model 3 and the Model Y.

Tesla PH’s website currently allows individuals to express their interest by signing up to get an update on its EVs, including the Model S and Model X. However, the current Tesla EVs that can be ordered remain the Model 3 and Model Y. In fact, Tesla PH recently launched the Model Y L, which is the longer version of the Model Y. The main difference between the two, aside from the letter “L”, is that the Model Y L can accommodate up to six occupants. Tesla PH shared that deliveries for the Model Y L are estimated to be fulfilled within two to three months.

The Model S and Model X have yet to be made available for order on Tesla PH’s official website. But, with the production of the two Tesla vehicles ending, there’s a possibility that the Model S and the Model X will not make their Philippine debut. Of note, Tesla PH has yet to release an official announcement about the possible local availability of the Model S and Model X.

With the production coming to an end, the Tesla Model S had a 14-year run and has been considered one of the significant vehicles that paved the way for EVs to enter the global automotive industry. Consumer Reports, an independent organization based in the United States, said that the Tesla Model S is a vehicle that has helped shape current EVs.

“The Model S completely delivered on its promise to change how the world thought about electric cars. EVs were no longer the vegetables you should eat—they became the dessert you desired,” said Consumer Reports Auto Test Center Senior Director Jake Fisher.

“It was the first time that we saw an electric car go head-to-head with other cars in its class and just outsell them. It was more desirable, and it performed better on every objective or subjective measure,” Fisher added.

The Model X, on the other hand, had an 11-year run and has been one of the iconic Tesla vehicles thanks to its rear doors, called Falcon Wing doors. The Model X’s rear doors open upward instead of sideways, which mimics a bird opening its wings. The Model X is built on the Model S platform, and it is Tesla’s first crossover SUV.

Autocar’s Take

Tesla has officially ended the production of the Model S and Model X, which are EVs that helped establish Tesla in the global automotive industry. The Model S is considered a vehicle that shaped how consumers look at EVs, which is why the vehicle is significant to Tesla’s history as an EV company.

The Model X, which followed the Model S, is one of the iconic Tesla vehicles due to its Falcon wing rear doors. The said doors are more than enough to capture one’s attention, allowing the Model X to stand out among the sea of vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine.
