As electric vehicles (EV) continue gaining traction in the Philippines, Chinese automaker GAC is positioning itself as a serious contender in the country’s growing EV space. Proof of this is its recent launch of the all-new Aion V and its AEP 3.0 platform which it developed in-house.
The GAC Aion V is an electric SUV aimed at Filipino families looking for a practical long-range EV. GAC says the AEP 3.0 system in the Aion V delivers over 90% energy conversion efficiency while lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity by up to 20% compared to traditional ICE vehicles. The result is improved stability and handling, especially on varied local road conditions.
Unlike conventional vehicle platforms adapted from internal combustion engine (ICE) models, GAC’s AEP 3.0 architecture was designed exclusively for battery electric vehicles (BEV). The company claims the dedicated platform allows for better efficiency, improved safety, and more refined driving dynamics suited for daily use.

The Aion V also benefits from enhanced body rigidity through its integrated battery structure, which the company claims improves structural strength by up to 20%. Safety remains a key selling point, particularly with the inclusion of GAC’s Magazine Battery 2.0 technology, described as a waterproof and high-temperature-resistant battery system engineered to minimize thermal risks.
For buyers concerned about range anxiety, the Aion V offers over 600 km of range. GAC says the SUV can also charge from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes, restoring more than 300 km of range during a short stop.
Beyond performance figures, the Aion V comes equipped with features designed for comfort and convenience. These include a 14.6-inch infotainment display, wireless charging, voice controls, a fully reclining cabin layout, and even a built-in refrigerator integrated into the center console. All these are wrapped in a body structure that uses 1500 MPa ultra-high-strength steel, paired with a seven-airbag system featuring extended side curtain airbags for added passenger protection.
GAC Motor Philippines is currently offering introductory pricing for the Aion V until May 31, 2026. The Aion V Elite is priced at P1.418 million, while the Premium variant is available for P1.598 million during the promo period.
Autocar’s Take
The Philippine EV market is clearly evolving — slowly but surely. It’s no longer just about introducing electric cars. It’s now about proving they can genuinely fit everyday life. That’s where the GAC Aion V appears to make a strong case. Long driving range, fast charging capabilities, and family-focused practicality features matter far more to Filipino buyers than flashy tech or outright performance.
What shines is how GAC focused on usability instead of treating EVs like futuristic experiments. The pricing also places the Aion V within striking distance of many midsize SUVs currently on the market. As infrastructure slowly improves, vehicles like this could help normalize EV ownership for ordinary Filipino households sooner than expected.
