Porsche 911 Carrera GTS named 2025 World Performance Car

A jury of 96 automotive journalists from 30 countries has awarded the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS the title of 2025 World Performance Car. This marks Porsche’s eighth win in the category at the World Car Awards, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the global automotive industry.

Beating out 17 finalists, the new 911 Carrera GTS is scheduled for a local debut in the Philippines. It showcases a performance-oriented hybrid powertrain—an evolution that draws directly from Porsche’s extensive motorsport heritage.

At the core of the 911 Carrera GTS is the new T-Hybrid system, which combines a 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine with two electric motors. One is integrated into the turbocharger to create an electric turbo (eTurbo) that eliminates lag and recovers energy. The second motor, housed in the eight-speed PDK transmission, assists with torque and recuperation during braking and coasting.

This setup delivers a combined 541 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque, allowing the sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds, with a top speed of 312 km/h. Remarkably, the car’s overall weight remains unchanged from its predecessor, preserving the balance and agility synonymous with the 911 nameplate.

Inside, the cabin blends traditional 911 design elements with updated technology. The Porsche Driver Experience places key controls around the steering wheel, including a driving mode selector, driver assistance lever, and a start button—the latter being a first for the 911. A 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster offers up to seven customizable views, including a Classic layout that echoes Porsche’s iconic five-dial display.

Now in its 21st year, the World Car Awards continues to highlight innovation and engineering excellence. With a total of nine wins at the program—eight of them for high-performance vehicles—Porsche reaffirms its commitment to creating dynamic, forward-thinking sports cars.
