Remember the Nissan Terrano? During the 90s, the Nissan Terrano was among the favored models by local off-roading enthusiasts. Among the many reasons behind this is its durability, thanks to its body-on-frame structure over segment rivals with unibody construction, as well as the fact that its 4WD system uses a transfer case, making it a more capable off-roader than other compact SUVs at the time.
After decades of absence in the Nissan lineup, the Terrano resurfaced once again, this time as a PHEV Concept unveiled at the Auto China 2026. The Japanese automotive brand revealed that the Terrano PHEV Concept aims to be a versatile off-roader that caters to the needs of outdoor adventure and urban commuting, featuring its latest plug-in hybrid technology.

Just a week after Nissan announced the Xterra for America, the automaker recognized the importance of China’s strategic role in the brand’s new vision of “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life” during the show. As per Nissan, China plays two distinct and important roles as one of the brand’s biggest markets, alongside Japan and the U.S.
First, China serves as a strong domestic market, delivering clear, compelling value to Chinese customers. Second, it functions as a global innovation and export hub, leveraging China’s innovation and speed to develop competitive technologies and products globally.
“Under our vision, China is not only a highly competitive domestic market but also a source of innovation, enabling us to create new value and experiences for customers in China and in the global markets,” said Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Ivan Espinosa.

“Advanced technology must serve a clear purpose and be experienced directly by customers through mobility that is safer, more intuitive, and more accessible. China is central to bringing this belief to life,” Espinosa furthered.
Aside from the Terrano PHEV Concept, the brand also unveiled the Urban SUV PHEV Concept, which features advanced electrification technology intended for younger customers, aiming to fortify Nissan’s future SUV lineup. Production versions of both concept cars are targeted to be unveiled on the global stage within one year.
If the Terrano PHEV Concept brought back the nostalgia for you, Nissan has been accelerating its new energy vehicle (NEV) product lineup since last year, and among the models it introduced is the Frontier Pro PHEV, an electrified pickup truck that bears another familiar Nissan nameplate in the Philippines.
