Mitsubishi Motors Corporation introduced the all-electric Eclipse Cross, a new compact SUV that underscores the brand’s commitment to electrification. Scheduled for release in Europe before the end of 2025, the Eclipse Cross is the Japanese brand’s first vehicle in the segment designed exclusively as a battery electric vehicle (BEV).

For long-time fans, especially those in the tuner scene, the Eclipse name carries a sense of nostalgia. Once known as a sporty coupe that captured attention in the 1990s and early 2000s, the car evolved into a small SUV called the Eclipse Cross in 2017. Now, Mitsubishi is giving the nameplate a new chapter, this time as its symbol of the company’s transition into an electric future.

The all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be produced at Renault Group’s EletriCity plant in Douai, France, under an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnership. Just like the Renault Scenic E-Tech it’s based on, it features an 87 kWh battery, providing approximately 600 km of electric driving range per charge. This battery is connected to an electric motor, which delivers 215 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Charging options include AC charging up to 22 kW and DC fast charging up to 150 kW.

Exterior-wise, the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross’ design follows the “Smart Armor” concept, combining robust elements with modern sophistication, a design already seen in the Mitsubishi XForce and the Mitsubishi Destinator. The brand’s “Dynamic Shield” fascia, three-dimensional designed honeycomb grille, and a choice of 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels create a confident look. Meanwhile, the rear end highlights a hexagonal motif.

Inside, the BEV SUV features premium touches, including diamond-pattern stitching, ambient lighting with 48 selectable colors, and a panoramic electrochromic roof. Moreover, Mitsubishi didn’t skimp on its tech features, which include a 12.3-inch vertical display with Google Built-in features, smartphone connectivity, an upmarket audio system, and over-the-air software updates via the Mitsubishi Motors app.

“Developed for the European market, with Mitsubishi Motors Europe Design responsible for the design, the new 100% electric Eclipse Cross SUV is an important milestone for the brand. The model is packed with the latest technology, from powertrain to connectivity to deliver during every journey,” said Frank Krol, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

While the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gained traction globally, the Philippine market didn’t quite catch on as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) opted not to sell it. Will the arrival of the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross BEV and the brewing competition in the local EV segment convince the company to finally bring it in?
