Meet the Destinator: Mitsubishi’s newest 7-seat family SUV

At the ongoing 32nd GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show, Mitsubishi just unveiled the All-New Destinator, a model strikingly similar in looks to the DST Concept SUV which graced last year’s Philippine International Auto Show (PIMS). Aside from the catchy name, the Destinator fronts a bold, upscale exterior with a roomy, high-quality interior.

Built in West Java by Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia, the Destinator stands as the 3rd Indonesian-developed model for the global audience. The first two being the Xpander and the Xforce.

From the outside, the Mitsubishi Destinator integrates the brand’s Dynamic Shield fascia design in a seamless manner. The result is a machine that is both at home to the wide open road and the adventurous path. The interior, on the other hand, features three-row seating, a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, and ample storage. Mitsubishi also introduces a new level of personalization via its infotainment system.

Tech-wise, the Destinator boasts a 12.3-inch central display and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. These are integrated into a wide dashboard for a more streamlined look and feel. The Yamaha-developed sound system offers customizable modes for different seating areas.

For safety, it has the Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing, a suite of safety features consisting of such things as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Multi-Around Monitor.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with CVT. It delivers 120 kW (161 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. Moreover, this motor comes with Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, and Tarmac modes for various road conditions. The suspension, meanwhile, focuses on comfort, primarily on Southeast Asian roads such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

The news of the All-New Mitsubishi Destinator is just starting to come out from the local press rounds. But the anticipation is high as Mitsubishi has confirmed the Philippine arrival of the Destinator. It will slot in the lineup below the Montero Sport but above the Xpander Cross. The question is: When will MMPC bring it in? Your guess is as good as ours.
