The Mitsubishi Destinator is showing that it is more than just a stylish seven-seater crossover SUV, as it has earned a five-star safety rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), a comprehensive safety performance assessment for new vehicles in the Southeast Asian region.
Mitsubishi Motors said that the Destinator’s five-star safety rating is a testament to its commitment to achieving a society with zero traffic accidents. The specific Mitsubishi Destinator used for the ASEAN NCAP safety assessment is a 2026 model-year GLS variant, which is the same model currently being sold in Indonesia and will also be available in the Philippine and Vietnamese markets.
The ASEAN NCAP reports that the Mitsubishi Destinator performed well under its current assessment protocol or standards. The test is segmentized into four categories: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). The Destinator managed to obtain an overall score of 77.27 points, which qualifies it for a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.
In the AOP test, the ASEAN NCAP stated that the Mitsubishi Destinator provided adequate protection to both occupants’ chests during a frontal collision, based on data obtained from the test dummy. It is also reported that the driver’s lower leg received adequate protection. The Destinator scored 27.75 points out of 32 in the AOP test.
For the COP test, the Destinator scored 42.18 points out of 51, qualifying for a five-star rating in the specified category. In the SA test, Mitsubishi’s new SUV managed to get a score of 15.77 points out of 21. The ASEAN NCAP stated that the Destinator’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) function met its requirements and standards. This assessment is part of the features being evaluated under ASEAN NCAP’s SA category test.
Lastly for the MS test, the Mitsubishi Destinator scored 8.82 points out of 16, which is still enough for it to be given a five-star rating for the said category. For the MS test, the ASEAN NCAP assessed the Destinator’s Blind Spot Detection (BSD) technology. In the assessment, ASEAN NCAP confirms that the BSD technology has functioned as required.

Mitsubishi added that the Destinator is equipped with the brand’s advanced driver assistance system, Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing. The said tech feature comes with several driver-assist technologies, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation system, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beam, leading car departure notification, and multi-around view monitor.
The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator is set to make its Philippine debut on November 20 at Ring Garden, Ayala Malls Manila Bay. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has also opened the reservation books for the Destinator, which is currently being offered at an introductory price starting at P1,289,000.
