The sports sedan scene has long been dominated by European heavyweights like BMW’s 3 Series and Audi’s A5 Sportback. Across the Pacific, Cadillac’s CT5-V Blackwing and Lexus’s IS 500 F Sport hold their ground. Now, with teasers of the MG 07 emerging, Chinese brands are signaling they’re ready to challenge the status quo with a tech-heavy, potentially electrified contender.
Morris Garages (or MG for short) has always been known for building driver-focused cars. From mid-20th century icons like the MGA and MGB to modern offerings such as the MG GT and Cyberster, the brand has continued to evolve under SAIC ownership. And now, with recent teasers of the MG 07, it appears that a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sports sedan is about to join the lineup.
Recent teaser shots reveal a sleek, low-slung sports sedan with a long front and short rear. Its fastback roofline flows seamlessly into the trunk, evoking cars like the Porsche Panamera and the Denza Z9 GT. While the current MG7 impressed with quad exhausts and a 2.0-liter turbocharged punch, the MG 07 hints at a more futuristic direction. The prominent LiDAR housing above the windshield suggests advanced autonomous capabilities, while the metallic purple paint and hidden door handles signal MG’s ambitions to move beyond the budget segment into premium territory.

Available information, including powertrain specifications and performance figures, remains scarce. What has been disclosed is an expected price range of around 150,000 to 200,000 yuan, or roughly P1.3 million to P1.7 million in Philippine pesos. At that price point, the MG 07 could undercut German sedans like the BMW 3 Series while offering more technology than many mainstream Japanese options.
With the sports sedan market dominated by the Europeans, and other Asian offerings like the Denza Z9 still being a ways away from reaching Philippine soil, if MG Philippines decides to bring the 07 here, it wouldn’t just be fighting the established Europeans; it would be preemptively guarding the gate against the likes of the Xiaomi SU7 and the BYD Seal, potentially sparking a high-performance tech war on EDSA. And judging by how striking the 07 looks, it’s a prospect we’ll definitely be watching closely.
