When it comes to performance wagons, Audi has long been a benchmark, from the pioneer that was the RS2 Avant, which started the German marque’s performance line, to the RS6 being a beloved example of a “Performance vehicle for the family.” From the looks of it, the new RS5 Avant appears ready to continue that tradition, even if its reveal came in less-than-ideal fashion for the Ingolstadt institution.
Audi’s Dutch social media team inadvertently revealed a teaser for the upcoming performance wagon in an Instagram story last month. Then, just this week, the car was leaked in full on a number of social media pages, giving us a sneak peek at the fire-breathing long-roof model.
Based on the car’s profile, despite being shrouded in shade, this new wagon from the brand of four rings is a wider and meaner machine than its predecessors, if the wider arches are anything to go by. Couple that with other enhancements, such as the carbon fiber skirts, mirrors, and F1-inspired brake light, from recent leaks. Also, it will be available in both sedan and wagon body styles.

Additional reports also note that the last-generation Audi S4 25th Anniversary edition produced 464 hp and 600 Nm of torque, offering a useful point of comparison should the new RS5 indeed approach the rumored 500-hp mark. Audi also says this new-generation RS5 will be powered by a 2.9-liter V6 paired with electric motors, easily surpassing the 362 horsepower and 550 Nm of its modest sibling, the S5. Pair that with suspension tweaks and bigger brakes, and you’ve got something that can proudly carry on Audi’s performance wagon legacy.
While it’s far too early to say whether or not this will come to the Philippines, this looks to be a promising machine, be it for enthusiasts that have to put kids in the backseat or wagon connoisseurs that appreciate classics like the RS2, BZ Touring Corollas, and even the Volvo 850, and want to see what the latest and greatest in station wagons has to offer.
