Honda Foundation Inc. (HFI) has extended support and relief to the community of Barangay Lagao in General Santos City, where thousands of residents were affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao last June.
HFI said that the earthquake has affected the communities throughout the Mindanao region, resulting in collapsed buildings, damaged roads, and destroyed homes. The families living within Barangay Lagao in General Santos City were displaced due to the urban destruction.
As such, representatives from HFI and over 20 Honda associates based in Davao came together to extend help to the affected community. They repacked and distributed relief goods, including five kilograms of premium rice each for 500 affected families. HFI added that the relief operation was conducted in coordination with and supported by the local government.
HFI and Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) President Hidekazu Arai said that the company sincerely hopes that the affected communities recover as soon as possible.
“We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the victims of the recent earthquake. Through this donation, Honda hopes to remind the community that they are in our thoughts. We would like to help ease their burdens, and we hope for everyone’s swift recovery,” Arai said.

This shows that HFI is always ready to extend a helping hand whenever there’s a calamity, which was also seen when it helped the affected families in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu, due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tino last year. HFI donated a total of 20,160 1.5L bottles of drinking water to 1,680 families.
