Nissan has debuted the facelifted Fairlady Z at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, marking the first design update for the said vehicle. The refreshed Nissan Fairlady Z was showcased alongside the Aura NISMO RS.

At first glance, one might not notice the design updates that Nissan gave to the Fairlady Z. Aside from the instantly recognizable new exterior paint called Unryu Green, which is a modern take on the classic Grand Prix Green seen on early Z cars, the design tweaks integrated into the new Fairlady Z are subtle.

You will notice the design update when you look closely at the vehicle’s front end, which now features a restyled bumper. Nissan said that the new front bumper design is inspired by the old S30’s aerodynamic G-nose, which is engineered to cut front lift and reduce drag. Aside from the front bumper, among the noticeable new details is the “Z” emblem, which replaces the Nissan logo.

The facelifted Nissan Z also comes with new 19-inch wheels that give a nod to its Z predecessors. The Japanese automaker added that the new Z is equipped with a retuned suspension system. The shock absorbers now use bigger pistons, which are intended to handle more pressure and have better dampening capability, yielding an enhanced ride. Nissan also said that the Z’s brakes have been improved. The rear, on the other hand, remains the same as the outgoing model.

Inside, the most significant design update is the Fairlady Z’s new tan interior color. The overall cabin layout is similar to the outgoing model. As such, it still has the same infotainment touchscreen, instrument cluster, aircon vents, and round climate control dials, among others. Interestingly, the interior image shows that the manual transmission is paired with paddle shifters, which doesn’t make sense.

The facelifted Nissan Fairlady Z is still powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers 400 horsepower and 475 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.
