BAIC Philippines recently introduced the B40e Trailmaster rEV at this year’s Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). While it made headlines locally, its Chinese-market counterpart, the Beijing Off-Road BJ40e REEV, has been gaining strong sales momentum in China.
According to MarkLines industry sales data cited by BAIC, the BJ40e REEV emerged as the top-selling new-energy hardcore off-road SUV in China for three consecutive months. The performance reflects growing demand for electrified off-road vehicles that combine all-terrain capability with improved efficiency, comfort, and modern technology. Riding on that success, BAIC Philippines is now bringing the same model to local showrooms as the B40e Trailmaster rEV.
Built on BAIC’s globally recognized off-road platform, the B40e Trailmaster rEV pairs rugged styling with range-extended electric vehicle (rEV) technology. Unlike a conventional battery-electric vehicle, its electrified system is designed to provide improved driving efficiency while retaining the capability expected from a true adventure-ready SUV.

BAIC says the vehicle is suited for both urban driving and outdoor exploration, targeting professionals, families, and motorists seeking a more versatile SUV without compromising off-road performance. Timothy Sytin, BAIC Philippines’ Brand Head, was quoted as saying, “At BAIC, our goal is to give the modern Filipino driver new-energy SUVs that fit the way Filipinos actually live. Vehicles that are capable on any road, efficient for everyday use, and ready for any adventure.“
The launch also marks another step in BAIC Philippines’ expansion into the country’s growing electrified vehicle market. The company said it continues to strengthen its dealer network and aftersales support while broadening its lineup of electrified SUVs. Furthermore, the model is also part of BAIC’s display at this month’s UAAGI On the Move event at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall, where visitors can see the brand’s latest models.
While the BJ40e REEV has already established itself as one of China’s leading electrified hardcore off-road SUVs, BAIC Philippines believes the local version can appeal to Filipino buyers looking for a vehicle that blends everyday usability with genuine off-road capability. Its arrival also reflects the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in both the Philippine SUV and electrified vehicle segments.
Autocar’s Take
Success in China does not automatically guarantee success in the Philippines, but it does give the BAIC B40e Trailmaster rEV a stronger story heading into the local market. The fact that its Chinese counterpart topped its segment for three straight months points to the fact that there is genuine demand for electrified off-road SUVs when they offer capability alongside improved efficiency. For Filipino buyers, the appeal will ultimately depend on real-world performance, ownership costs, and aftersales support. Still, the arrival of another range-extended electric SUV gives consumers more choices as the country’s electrified vehicle market continues to evolve.
