BAIC Philippines showcased the B40e Trailmaster 4×4 rEV at an auto show. The B40e is the latest model offering from BAIC PH, which we were able to see closely before its actual debut at an auto show.

As previously mentioned, the BAIC B40e features the car brand’s Advanced Range-Extended Electric Vehicle system. The BAIC B40e comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine that steps in as a generator, which recharges the 40.3 kWh battery pack, and it also has dual electric motors. This powertrain produces a combined power output of 530 horsepower and 655 Nm of torque.

BAIC said that the B40e offers a combined driving range of 1,200 kilometers, and it can go from zero to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The BAIC B40e is a proper 4×4 built on the traditional body-on-frame paired with a four-wheel-drive system. It has a wading depth of 750mm, a 36-degree approach angle, a 31-degree departure angle, and is also equipped with front and rear locking differentials. It’s equipped with vehicle-to-load (V2L), which allows it to power external devices via two 220V outlets with up to 2.2 kW of output.

The B40e has a bold and composed exterior, which is highlighted by the modern-looking front fascia, aggressive front bumpers, and prominent wheel arches. The side profile gets crisp character lines and noticeable black cladding. The rear has distinctive taillights along with a large bumper, while the exposed spare tire gives the B40e a rugged look.

Inside, the BAIC B40e Trailmaster 4×4 rEV’s cabin leans more toward modern comfort. The front seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage. Featuring prominently on the dashboard are three displays, one for the driver’s instrument cluster and two large 12.8-inch displays, one for the infotainment and one for the passenger. The BAIC B40e also comes with a panoramic sunroof, an Infinity 12-speaker sound system, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)

Of note, BAIC offers a 5-year or 150,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty, with the same coverage for the high-voltage battery, and three years of roadside assistance. The BAIC B40e Trailmaster rEV comes with a sticker price of P2,888,000.

The 2026 Manila International Auto Show runs until April 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Autocar’s Take

The BAIC B40e Trailmaster rEV is a vehicle that offers versatility on the road as well as on the powertrain setup. This is due to the reason that it has a pair of electric motors and a turbocharged engine that serves as the 4×4’s onboard generator. The turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine, on the other hand, steps in as a generator, which recharges the 40.3 kWh battery pack. This setup gives you an extended driving range, which is beneficial, especially when you take into consideration the current fuel prices.

Now, in terms of design, the BAIC B40e comes with an aggressive and modern-looking exterior, which is the current trend seen in most vehicles that come from China. The interior, on the other hand, is equally modern-looking, which is a welcome sight to tech-savvy individuals.
