Winding back a month ago GWM Philippines previewed the Haval H7, its newest electrified SUV. Now, the Chinese brand is opening its reservation books for the Haval H7 ahead of its official launch, bannering the company’s major push in the country’s fast-growing electrified segment.

GWM positions the Haval H7 as one of the most advanced and performance-oriented models in its local lineup to date. Moreover, its online reservation portal confirmed that the SUV will be offered in three variants: a self-charging hybrid (HEV), a plug-in hybrid front-wheel-drive model, and a flagship Hi4 plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive version.

Headlining the model is the GWM Haval H7 Hi4 4WD PHEV, a range-topping variant that combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors. It delivers notable performance figures of 364 hp and 760 Nm of torque. Following it is the Haval H7 Hi4 2WD PHEV, which runs with the same 1.5-liter engine, but with a single electric motor. It puts out 322 hp and 540 Nm. Both PHEVs come with a 19.09 KW/h battery pack, with the former reaching an average all-electric driving range of 91 km, while the latter at 105 km.

Then there is the Haval H7 HEV 2WD. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter gasoline mill, paired to a single electric motor, producing 244 hp and 540 Nm. It uses a smaller 1.53 kWh system and operates without external charging, relying on regenerative and engine-assisted energy management.

Design-wise, the Haval H7 carries a strong, upright SUV profile measuring 4,800 mm in length and 1,950 mm in width, with a 2,738 mm wheelbase. Its squared proportions, bold front fascia, and 18- to 19-inch alloy wheel options give it a distinctly rugged appearance, aimed at buyers who prefer a more traditional SUV stance in a modern package.

Inside, the Haval H7 focuses on technology and space. A 15.6-inch infotainment system sits at the center of the dashboard, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a head-up display, wireless charging, and a 540-degree camera system. The five-seat cabin layout emphasizes comfort, with generous interior space, a panoramic sunroof, and practical convenience features such as rear air vents and a cooled center console compartment.

Safety is provided by six airbags and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, and hill descent control, among others.

GWM Philippines has yet to make an announcement of the Haval H7’s official launch. But the confirmed specs and the opening of reservations are sure signs that the model could come out very soon.

Autocar’s Take

The opening of reservations for the Haval H7 in the Philippines highlights how hybrid SUVs are becoming mainstream at such a quick pace. GWM’s strategy is clearly centered on offering multiple electrified powertrains under one model, which makes it easier for buyers to understand and learn more about the model and the variant which best suits their purchasing requirements.

On paper, the performance figures are strong, placing it alongside larger and more expensive SUVs. However, buyers will likely weigh more than just specifications. Long-term reliability, after-sales support, and parts availability remain critical in this segment. The H7 will ultimately be judged by how well it performs in real Philippine driving conditions and ownership experience.
