Kia Philippines is set to expand its electrified lineup with the arrival of the new Sportage Turbo Hybrid, marking the return of the brand’s compact SUV to the local market. The model is scheduled to make its Philippine debut on July 24, giving buyers another option in the increasingly competitive hybrid SUV segment.
Already available in several global markets, the latest Sportage combines Kia’s updated design language with a hybrid powertrain aimed at balancing performance and efficiency. The crossover features the brand’s distinctive “Opposites United” styling philosophy, highlighted by boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a large black grille, and a more sculpted body than its predecessor.
The Kia Sportage Turbo Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Together, the system produces 235 hp and 367 Nm of torque. Depending on the market, the hybrid is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations, although the Philippine specification has yet to be officially confirmed.

Power is sent through a six-speed automatic transmission instead of the continuously variable transmissions commonly found in many hybrid vehicles. The setup is designed to deliver a more familiar driving experience while allowing the electric motor to assist during acceleration and improve fuel economy.
Beyond the powertrain, the Sportage also brings a host of modern technologies. Globally, it comes with dual panoramic displays, wireless smartphone connectivity, over-the-air software updates, a premium audio system, and Kia’s latest suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, and forward collision avoidance assist.
The arrival of the Sportage Turbo Hybrid comes as more mainstream brands introduce electrified SUVs to the Philippine market. It will enter a segment populated by models such as the Honda CR-V e:HEV, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, giving consumers an even wider selection of fuel-efficient family crossovers.
Autocar Philippines recently had the opportunity to preview the new Sportage Turbo Hybrid ahead of its local launch. We’ll be sharing our first impressions, closer look at its features, and initial driving experience soon, so stay tuned for our full coverage.

Autocar’s Take
The return of the Sportage is well timed. Hybrid SUVs are becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in the Philippine market, and Kia’s latest offering seems to have the right ingredients — competitive performance, modern technology, and a design that stands out without being overly aggressive.
Pricing will ultimately determine how well it fares, but on paper, the Sportage Turbo Hybrid looks ready to become a serious contender. We’ve already had an early look at the vehicle, and based on our preview, this is one launch worth watching closely.
