The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) is recognized as one of the Environmental Sustainability Partners at the 2026 Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

The DENR’s Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran award intends to recognize organizations that implement “strong environmental performance, support sustainability initiatives, and uphold environmental regulations.” It also aims to highlight the collaboration among government, industry, and communities in protecting natural resources.

CAMPI said that “sustainability” is one of its pillars, as it advocates for a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality. The organization added that it supports policy research for carbon-neutral fuels and sustainable and renewable energy.

As a testament to this, Toyota Motor Philippines’ manufacturing plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna, sources 100 percent renewable energy. Toyota PH signed a Retail Supply Contract, back in 2023, with a local supplier to provide green-backed electricity for its manufacturing operations. Of note, Toyota is among the member car brands of CAMPI.

Another member car brand of CAMPI is Suzuki Philippines, which has also been taking initiatives to take care of the environment. Recently, Suzuki PH reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with a pawikan (sea turtle) release activity held at the Pawikan Conservation Center in Morong, Bataan. The hatchlings released during the activity originated from pawikan nests adopted by Suzuki PH.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), which is another member car brand of CAMPI, participated in International Coastal Cleanup Day last year, organized by the Sta. Rosa City Environment and Natural Resources Office. The cleanup event focused on protecting marine ecosystems and raising awareness of the effects of environmental neglect. It highlighted the consequences of irresponsible waste management, such as habitat destruction and biodiversity loss.

The initiatives mentioned above are just some of the activities that member car brands of CAMPI have implemented.

CAMPI Vice President Atty. Rhys Alexei Y. Murillo stated, “Receiving this award is a milestone achievement for CAMPI and its Member Companies. Sustainability is an important pillar of the Automotive Industry and requires a shared blueprint for change.”

“CAMPI and its Members thank the Philippine Government, represented by the DENR, for this recognition, which motivates us to push the boundaries even further and drive meaningful changes within the Automotive Industry,” Murillo added.

Autocar’s Take

CAMPI’s recognition as one of the DENR’s Environmental Sustainability Partners shows the organization’s commitment to considering the environment, while at the same time offering products that are geared towards delivering lower emissions. This shows that member car brands of CAMPI, such as Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda, among many others, are doing their respective part in taking care of the environment.

This also highlights that CAMPI is more than just an organization that’s driven by car sales; it is also a group that values the environment. By launching different initiatives, CAMPI car brand members are in line with the DENR’s mission in protecting natural resources.
