Tesla Philippines could be expanding its model lineup soon, as the Model Y L is already on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) list of recognized electric vehicles (EV). The Tesla Model Y L is registered as an MPV on the DOE’s list of EVs.

The Tesla Model Y L is essentially the longer version of the Model Y. The main difference between the two, aside from the letter “L”, is that the Model Y L can accommodate up to six occupants. This means that it has additional seats at the back, making it an EV that comes with a 2+2+2 seat configuration. Of note, the Model Y L has captain seats on the second row, while the third-row seats can be folded flat in case you need extra cargo space.

Based on the numbers shown on the DOE’s website, the Tesla Model Y L measures 4,969mm long, 1,920mm wide, and 1,668mm tall. As compared to the five-seater Model Y, the Tesla Model Y L is 179mm longer and 44mm taller, to make way for the third-row passenger seats.

Tesla shared that the Model Y L features an expanded body size to offer a more spacious interior. The six-seat layout, according to the car brand, allows for more flexible space utilization and versatility for various scenarios.

The DOE website also shows that the Tesla Model Y L can generate 507 horsepower and is equipped with an 88.2 kWh battery. Looking at other markets, such as China, the Model Y L has an all-wheel drive dual motor, which allows the EV to go from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, as per Tesla. It is also capable of delivering a maximum EV driving range of up to 751 kilometers (CLTC) on a single charge.

Tesla Philippines has yet to confirm whether it will be launching the Model Y L in the Philippines, as of this writing. On the other hand, Tesla PH is showcasing the Model 3 and the Model Y at SM Megamall until March 29, 2026.

Autocar’s Take

Tesla Philippines could be expanding its model lineup soon, as the Model Y L is now listed among the recognized EVs of the DOE. With it appearing on the DOE’s website, the possibility of it being introduced in the Philippine market is probable. The six-seater layout of the Model Y L could entice consumers who are looking for an extra passenger seat.

In markets such as China, the Tesla Model Y L has an all-wheel drive dual motor and could deliver a maximum driving range of up to 751 kilometers. As such, we could expect similar numbers should Tesla PH decide to introduce the Model Y L.
