Dongfeng Motors Philippines has introduced the all-new Mage EV, a full-size electric SUV priced at P1,398,000 that promises a driving range of up to 530 kilometers on a single charge. The model made its Philippine debut at the 14th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), adding another long-range option to the country’s growing electric vehicle market.

At its launch price, the Mage EV targets motorists who want an electric SUV with substantial driving range without stepping into the higher price brackets typically associated with long-range EVs. The launch drew attention from motor show attendees, industry stakeholders, and brand partners, including Tara Global Technology Inc.

Beyond its claimed range, the Mage EV offers DC fast charging that takes approximately 30 minutes, although Dongfeng did not specify the charging conditions or battery percentage range covered by that estimate in its announcement. The SUV also features a 413-liter luggage compartment and a cabin designed to prioritize comfort and everyday practicality.

Dongfeng is positioning the Mage EV under the slogan “Built for Business. Made for Everyday Life,” highlighting its potential appeal to both private owners and commercial operators.

The company estimates driving costs at around P2 per km, a figure that could interest motorists looking to manage daily transportation expenses. For transport network vehicle service (TNVS) operators, the combination of a long claimed range and fast-charging capability could also make the SUV worth considering for regular passenger trips.

Take note that actual operating costs will depend on electricity rates, charging habits, driving conditions and vehicle usage. Charging time and real-world range may likewise vary depending on factors such as battery state of charge, speed, traffic and air-conditioning use.

The Mage EV’s arrival gives Filipino buyers another option as electric vehicles gradually expand beyond smaller city cars and more affordable crossovers. Its full-size SUV format may appeal to households that need additional luggage space while also considering the potential savings associated with electric propulsion.

For business users, the estimated per-kilometer cost could be an important consideration, particularly for vehicles that cover substantial distances daily. Prospective buyers will still need to evaluate charging access, especially those without home charging facilities or who regularly travel beyond urban areas.

With the Mage EV, Dongfeng Motors Philippines is expanding its local electric vehicle lineup around three key selling points: range, practicality and price. At P1.398 million, the SUV enters a market where buyers are increasingly weighing upfront purchase costs against potential savings on energy and routine maintenance.

Its appeal will ultimately depend on real-world efficiency, charging convenience and the ownership support available to Philippine customers.

Autocar’s Take

The Dongfeng Mage EV has an interesting proposition for Filipino motorists: a full-size electric SUV with a claimed 530-kilometer range for P1,398,000. That combination could make long-range electric driving more accessible, particularly for households and business operators who need a vehicle that can handle daily mileage without frequent charging stops.

The estimated P2-per-kilometer driving cost is another selling point, although actual savings will depend on electricity rates and usage. The bigger deal here is how the Mage EV performs in Philippine conditions and how convenient ownership will be.
