MG Motor Philippines opened 2026 with a strong sales performance. The Chinese brand reported 716 units sold in January, increasing its share of overall industry sales. This is based on the latest industry sales report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI).

The January results represent an increase of 181 units compared with December 2025, and a 34% improvement against the same month last year, solidifying the brand’s continued growth in the Philippine automotive market. The performance marks a notable milestone for the company, strengthening its position among established and emerging automotive brands in the country.

Sales momentum was driven largely by MG’s core passenger car lineup, led by the MG5 sedan and the MG ZS crossover. MG says both models have consistently appealed to buyers for their balance of design, technology, and value. Additional contributors came from new nameplates introduced toward the latter part of 2025. These include the MG TRQ L, the brand’s first diesel-powered entry in the local pickup truck segment, and the MG HS Hybrid+, which expanded the company’s electrified vehicle offerings.

With this impressive sales result, MG moved up 1 rank to 8th place in overall industry sales, based on CAMPI’s latest data. The improvement reflects what the company describes as increasing consumer confidence in MG and its product portfolio.

Karl Magsuci, Vice President of MG Motor Philippines, went on to say, “2026 is off to a fantastic start for MG Motor Philippines. To celebrate this achievement and to continue building on this momentum, we are excited to offer our customers special nationwide promotions  across nearly every MG model, giving more Filipinos the opportunity to experience our technologically advanced, globally recognized, and best value vehicles firsthand.”

Looking ahead, the company stated that it will continue to focus on introducing innovative and high-quality vehicles tailored to local market needs. It concluded by reassuring customers that it will continue to improve the customer experience and pursue sustainable growth throughout 2026.

Autocar’s Take

MG’s January performance is a clear indicator of its steady, measurable progress. A climb to 8th place in overall industry sales, supported by year-on-year growth, suggests that the brand’s combination of mainstream models and newer offerings is resonating with Filipino buyers, building brand confidence and sparking curiosity about what the new models can offer.

The contribution of recently introduced vehicles, including a diesel pickup and a hybrid model, also reflects a more diversified product implementation strategy. 2026 is in its early stages, and if MG is able to sustain this momentum, this Year of the Fire Horse could be the brand’s best year yet in the Philippines.
