VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, continues to expand its presence in the Philippine market with a complete lineup of models supported by a flexible pricing and ownership strategy. At the heart of this approach is the VinFast Battery Subscription Program, designed to lower the cost of EV ownership and make EVs more accessible to Filipinos.
Under the program, the battery is treated as a leased component rather than a part of the vehicle’s initial purchase price. Buyers pay a monthly fee for access to the battery, with the fee varying based on typical monthly driving distance. This separation of battery cost from the vehicle itself can significantly reduce the initial financial barriers to EV ownership.
To further define its program and its benefits for Filipino EV buyers, VinFast recently held a roundtable discussion focused on the program. There, it presented a table of suggested retail prices (SRP) for VinFast models both with and without battery ownership. For example, the compact VF 3 is listed with an SRP of P745,000 with the battery included and P590,000 with the battery subscription. Larger models, including the VF 7 Eco, VF 7 Plus, and flagship VF 9 Plus, similarly show lower prices when the battery is excluded from the upfront purchase, with the VF 9 Plus dropping from P5,390,000 to P3,845,000 under subscription.

Beyond just lowering upfront prices, the VinFast battery subscription plan offers practical benefits. VinFast assumes responsibility for battery maintenance and replacement, including a replacement guarantee should the battery capacity or operational life fall below 70%. This coverage is especially valuable, given the high cost of battery replacement in EVs.
VinFast’s battery lease model also delivers secondary cost advantages that are particularly relevant in the Philippine market context. Because the battery is not owned by the buyer, insurance costs are expected to be lower, as insurance companies do not need to cover the most expensive component of an EV.
Finally, VinFast Philippines also discussed its plan to expand its charging stations nationwide. Through its partnership with V-Green, a Vietnamese EV charging infrastructure firm that is on a mission to build more EV charging facilities in the country, VinFast ensures better charging accessibility for both urban and provincial users. This multi-path approach that highlights both affordability and infrastructure support strengthens VinFast’s goal of accelerating EV adoption in the country by addressing not just vehicle costs but also long-term vehicle ownership practicality.

Autocar’s Take
VinFast Philippines’ battery subscription program is one of the most practical attempts to address the real-world barriers to EV adoption in the country. By separating battery ownership from vehicle purchase, VinFast lowers upfront costs while shifting long-term battery risk away from the consumer. This is particularly relevant in a market where replacement costs and battery degradation remain major concerns.
Including battery maintenance and replacement when capacity drops below a defined threshold provides tangible reassurance. While the monthly fees require careful cost comparisons with outright ownership, the flexibility of the battery subscription program gives Filipino buyers more control over their transition to EV ownership.
