Vietnamese car brand VinFast has formalized its automotive portfolio into three strategic brand lines. To usher in the achievement, it unveiled two new flagship ultra-luxury electric vehicles (EVs) in the form of the Lac Hong 800S and Lac Hong 900S.

The brand restructuring clarifies VinFast’s product positioning across distinct segments. The Lac Hong marque represents the brand’s top-tier luxury division, complementing the existing VF mass-market lineup. Joining the VinFast umbrella is the Green brand, focused on commercial mobility solutions

In more detail, the Lac Hong range includes the 900 LX, 800S, and 900S. On the other hand, the VF portfolio offers passenger EVs such as the VF 3, VF 6, VF 9, among others. As for the Green brand, models such as the Limo Green and the Minio Green head its way to cover service and fleet applications.

According to VinFast, the newly introduced Lac Hong 800S and 900S are positioned as an expression of national pride, incorporating Vietnamese cultural motifs into their modern design language. Exterior elements feature vertical grille slats inspired by Vietnamese bamboo. A golden bird ornament sitting over the edge of the hood, with an intricate design inspired by the Lac, a mythical winged creature from Vietnamese folklore. Decorative themes drawn from the Dong Son bronze drum and terraced rice fields appear throughout the vehicles.

Inside, both models use Nappa leather, trims and touch surfaces made of rare woods, and gold-plated accents. As ultra-luxury vehicles, both models come with amenities that include zero-gravity executive seats, power-assisted doors, and premium entertainment systems. The Lac Hong 900S elevates with more features such as privacy partition, starlight headliner, projection system, and foldable executive workstation.

Performance is motivated by a three-motor powertrain – one driving the front axle and the other two driving the left and right wheels. The powertrain is claimed to produce around 617 hp. Meanwhile, ride comfort is handled by a fully active suspension system.

“Following a period of accelerated growth – achieving the No.1 position in Vietnam and establishing our presence in key regional markets – the completion of our three-brand structure lays the foundation for our next phase of development: structured, professional and breakthrough-driven,” shared Duong Thi Thu Trang, VinFast Deputy CEO.

VinFast says that the Lac Hong 800S and Lac Hong 900S are slated for commercial launch in 2027.

Autocar’s take

VinFast’s move to define a clear brand tier is a signal of its maturity as a fast-growing automaker. By separating ultra-luxury, mass-market, and commercial-focused mobility, the company reduces brand overlap and sharpens its messaging. Tha Lac Hong models, while symbolic in design, also align technical ambition with their tri-motor powertrain and advanced suspension.

Whether the Lac Hong ultra-luxury positioning succeeds internationally  remains to be seen, but the structured approach itself is strategically sound. It gives VinFast room to grow without diluting its core brand identity – something many fast-scaling automakers today struggle to manage.
