Toyota is committed to expanding its lineup by offering model options that come with a hybrid powertrain. This remains to be the case as Toyota officially debuted the Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia, which is just weeks after introducing the all-new Hilux pickup truck.

Toyota Indonesia has now opened the reservation books for the Veloz Hybrid, but it has yet to release the full specifications of the said model. From what we know so far, the Veloz Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, which is the same power unit found in the Yaris Cross and the all-new Ativ.

The said gas engine delivers 91 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque. When coupled with the electric motor, which delivers 78 hp, the hybrid’s combined output is 111 hp. The Toyota Veloz Hybrid comes with an electronic continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) and a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is the same setup found on the all-new Ativ

Reports state that the Veloz Hybrid will have the following variant options: entry-level V trim, Q, and Q TSS. In Toyota speak, TSS means Toyota Safety Sense, which is a suite of advanced driver assist systems that includes features such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam, among others.

In terms of exterior design, the Veloz Hybrid remains similar to the current Veloz that is being sold in the Philippine market today. What differentiates it from the current Veloz is its powertrain, which now comes in hybrid. This also means that the hybrid MPV models from Suzuki, such as the Ertiga and the XL7, will be competing with the Veloz Hybrid when it arrives in the Philippine market.

The Veloz Hybrid will be produced in Indonesia, which is the third Toyota electrified model to be produced in the said country. The other Toyota models being produced in Indonesia are the Innova Zenix and the Yaris Cross.
