Chinese car brand Geely has announced the first global update for the EX5 all-electric SUV in 2026. The update focuses on improving the EX5’s everyday usability by enhancing connectivity, system responsiveness, and safety-related features, reinforcing the model’s role in Geely’s global electric vehicle strategy.
The first 2026 update introduces three key enhancements to improve the user experience. These include Android Auto integration to better support in-vehicle connectivity for Android device users, customized Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) low-speed sounds with three selectable profiles, and a new Drive Setup one-touch activation feature that allows drivers to quickly adjust multiple intelligent driving functions.
Built on Geely’s Global Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, the EX5 features the brand’s GEEA 3.0 electronic and electrical architecture. The system adopts a centralized computing framework with coordinated regional control, improving system stability and responsiveness while enabling software-driven updates throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle. Geely says this architecture allows the intelligent cockpit and in-vehicle ecosystem to evolve over time without requiring major hardware changes. The company added that future EX5 updates will continue to be guided by global user feedback, placing a high priority on real-world user experiences to further fine-tune the software-driven system.

Of note, the Geely EX5 has already been launched in over 40 countries and regions, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, and the Philippines. The model has achieved strong market performance across several regions, topping the Brazilian pure-electric C-class SUV sales chart for 4 consecutive months and posting leading results in markets such as the UAE and Mexico.
Of its design and safety credentials, the EX5 has been given the Best Interior Design title at the Turin Automotive Design Award. It is also the first model in Geely’s lineup to receive five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, underscoring its global safety validation.
Autocar’s Take
The latest EX5 update proves how software is now becoming central to vehicle competitiveness. Instead of focusing on cosmetic or mechanical changes, Geely’s emphasis on connectivity, usability, and electronic architecture underscores a long-term strategy built around lifecycle updates.
The EX5 highlights how global software-led vehicle development may shape future local offerings. Should the updates reach the local market anytime soon, the EX5’s new features, such as Android Auto integration and a centralized electronic architecture, address everyday concerns common among many Filipino motorists, particularly regarding connectivity and ease of use. While the update does not introduce new hardware, it marks the direction Geely is taking: vehicles designed to improve through software rather than relying too much on physical revisions.
