Toyota has reportedly decided to discontinue offering the Fortuner in Australia by next year due to the midsize SUV’s lackluster sales performance. The Japanese automaker will then focus on selling the Land Cruiser Prado and the larger Land Cruiser 300 in the Land Down Under come 2026.
Toyota decided to axe the Fortuner since it has not delivered significant sales, with it being outsold eight to one by the Prado this 2025, according to a news report by Australia-based publication Drive. Despite having a more expensive price tag, the Land Cruiser Prado is performing relatively better than the Toyota Fortuner, which is said to be an indication that the Australian market is “shifting” vehicle preference.

Toyota Australia will pin its efforts on pushing sales for the Prado, the Land Cruiser 300 Series, and the Hilux. Speaking of the latter, the all-new Toyota Hilux has already been revealed, and it could start rolling out in key markets such as Australia and the Philippines by mid-2026. As such, the imminent arrival of the all-new Hilux in Australia could have added to Toyota’s decision to put the curtain call on the Fortuner.
Drive shared that Toyota has reported 2,928 Fortuner units sold in Australia so far this 2025. To put things in perspective, the Prado’s sales are now at 23,298 units sold, while the Fortuner’s rivals, such as the Ford Everest, are at 21,915 units sold, the Isuzu mu-X at 12,499 units sold, and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sports (Montero Sport in the PH-market) is at 5,014 units sold.
Clearly, the numbers game is not in favor of the Fortuner, and it seems that the writing was on the wall for Toyota’s midsize SUV.

“Fortuner has been a great product for us over the years and found a relatively small but enthusiastic customer base. But with production ending next year, and customer preferences shifting in Australia, we made the decision to discontinue the Fortuner,” Toyota Australia Sales and Marketing Head Sean Hanley shared with Drive.
Interestingly, the Fortuner’s fate is starkly different when compared to its sales performance in the Philippines. Locally, the Fortuner is one of the top-selling models of Toyota Motor Philippines. According to data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), the Fortuner is currently the best-selling midsize SUV in the country.
From January to September 2025, the Toyota Fortuner led the sales chart with 9,732 units sold, surpassing its rivals, including the Mitsubishi Montero Sport with 8,284 units and the Ford Everest with 5,396 units.
