It seems like the FJ Cruiser, Toyota’s much-loved SUV, will soon be back in the game. This is according to Japanese media outlet Mag-X, which has posted something big Toyota is gearing up as a prologue, just days before this year’s Japan Mobility Show (JMS).

According to the report, the automaker will display the Land Cruiser FJ, a new model that could signal the return of the FJ-badged off-roader, which became an icon from the early 2000s to the mid-2010s. It officially left Toyota’s production line in 2022.

In line with this, Toyota will preview the new model on October 20, 2025, in an  exclusive event called “Japan Mobility Show Prologue.” The following day, a global premiere will be held. This new model will not be part of its booth at this year’s JMS and will only be shown at the aforementioned prologue event.

Positioned as the “youngest member” of the Land Cruiser family, the new model is expected to flaunt a rugged, boxy design, reminiscent of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. While Toyota has yet to make an explicit connection to the latter, its name and styling cues suggest that the spirit of the iconic SUV is making a comeback in modern form.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to be sourced from Thailand, with its official market introduction in Japan set for mid-2026. Its smaller size and likely more accessible pricing point hint at Toyota’s intent to bring the Land Cruiser nameplate to a wider audience, much as the FJ Cruiser did during its time. Earlier reports suggest it will use the platform of another revived nameplate in the Philippines, the Toyota Tamaraw.

The Japan Mobility Show Prologue event is also expected to include other concept vehicles, but the spotlight will likely shine the brightest on the new FJ. For many enthusiasts, its arrival signals more than just another SUV. It suggests the possible rebirth of an icon.

Full details on design, powertrain, and capability remain under wraps until its world premiere. But the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is already stirring serious buzz — a model that could carry the FJ legacy into the modern era.
