Motor racing fans are in for an exciting new addition to the Toyota GR Cup next year. Following the preview of the Tamaraw race car this weekend, Toyota Motor Philippines has officially announced the launch of the Tamaraw Cup for the 2026 season.
The Tamaraw Cup announcement came earlier today from Toyota Motor Philippines’ First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations, Andy Ty, during the ongoing third leg of the 2025 Toyota GR Cup. To give spectators a taste of what’s to come, five track-prepped Toyota Tamaraws took to the circuit in an exciting demo race, proving that the versatile people-mover can hold its own on the track.
Unlike the commercial version, the Tamaraw Cup machines will be purpose-built race vehicles, designed and tuned specifically for circuit competition. Details of the specifications of the Tamaraw Cup race cars are scarce at this point, but we’re likely expecting an upgraded suspension setup and race-required equipment like roll cages and bucket seats, among others.

Toyota says the 2026 grid will likely feature 20 identical Tamaraw race cars, ensuring close, wheel-to-wheel action and a level playing field for all competitors. The country’s number 1 automaker has yet to reveal the drivers to go behind the tiller of these Tamaraw race cars, but we won’t say no if we’re given the chance to hop on one.
This marks the first time in Philippine motorsport history that a utility vehicle is set to have its dedicated racing series. The Tamaraw Cup aims to showcase the platform’s durability and adaptability while giving grassroots racers a fresh and uniquely Filipino motorsport experience.
With the Tamaraw Cup officially joining the GR Cup umbrella in 2026, fans can look forward to even more variety, excitement, and national pride on the track.
