Petron Corporation has been named the official fuel partner of the 2025 Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel EcoRun. Set to take place on September 24, 2025, along a stretch of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the event goes beyond just horsepower and torque to highlight what really matters on the road: fuel economy.
The 2025 DOE-Petron Fuel EcoRun will feature over 70 vehicle examples from a wide variety of car brands currently available in the local market. These comprise conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and full battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The activity is designed to showcase fuel economy performance and efficiency in real-world driving conditions.
ICE and hybrid vehicles will be powered by Petron XCS and Petron Turbo Diesel fuels. The organizers plotted a distance coverage of about 115 km, which will start at Petron TPLEX Northbound. The participants will then head up to Rosario, La Union, and conclude at Petron TPLEX Southbound.
Unlike motorsports, the Fuel EcoRun is not about speed, who can drive the fastest, or what car comes out on top as the most powerful. Instead, it focuses on how different vehicle technologies perform under actual highway driving conditions. Providing drivers and manufacturers concrete data on efficiency and energy consumption. The upcoming Fuel EcoRun isn’t the first for DOE as the government agency has already conducted similar tests in the past, including the events in 2016 and 2017, both of which were also with Petron. This time, however, the number of electrified vehicles to be tested is expected to increase.

In this regard, Petron has also stepped up its mission to include strong support for cleaner mobility solutions. The company has begun installing EV charging stations in key locations, particularly at expressway stops, including its TPLEX sites, to diversify the country’s energy options.
DOE’s initiatives, such as the Fuel EcoRun, form part of the government’s advocacy for energy efficiency and conservation. Results from previous events have been used to promote more fuel-efficient driving habits and update the local automotive industry about the latest performance benchmarks.
“By powering this EcoRun with our best-in-class fuels, we demonstrate that efficiency begins at the pump. Petron XCS and Petron Turbo Diesel are trusted by millions of Filipino motorists every day because they deliver real performance and real savings,” shared Lubin B. Nepomuceno, General Manager of Petron Corporation. “By promoting energy efficiency, we are not only helping motorists save on fuel costs but also contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building a more sustainable transport sector,” the executive added.
