BMW Philippines has expanded its electrified vehicle lineup with the introduction of the new BMW X5 xDrive50e xLine Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). It is positioned as a limited-release luxury SUV that combines performance, efficiency, and premium comfort in a single package.

Distributed locally by SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the new BMW X5 xDrive50e xLine arrives with only 50 units allocated for the Philippine market. This makes it one of the most exclusive additions to the brand’s Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) range.

The luxury plug-in hybrid SUV is designed to address the growing demand for electrified mobility while maintaining the driving dynamics and versatility expected from a BMW. At the heart of the vehicle is BMW’s latest eDrive technology, which pairs a synchronous electric motor with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine. Together, the system produces 489 hp and 700 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.

One of the standout features of the BMW X5 PHEV is its pure electric driving range of up to 118 km. This allows many daily commutes to be completed without using fuel, offering greater efficiency amid fluctuating fuel prices. As a PHEV, the X5 xDrive50e also qualifies for exemption from Metro Manila’s number coding scheme under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) Law, providing added convenience for owners.

Beyond its electrified powertrain, the new BMW X5 xDrive50e xLine features premium styling elements including the illuminated BMW Kidney Grille Iconic Glow, 19-inch V-spoke alloy wheels, matte aluminum exterior accents, and adaptive air suspension.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Plus, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central display powered by BMW Operating System 8.5. Premium amenities include Sensafin upholstery, electrically adjustable sport seats with memory function, wireless charging, smartphone integration, and a Hi-Fi sound system.

Priced at P5,498,000, the BMW X5 xDrive50e xLine PHEV comes with a portable flexi charger, a 5-year or 200,000 km vehicle warranty, and an 8-year or 120,000 km battery warranty. The launch further reinforces BMW Philippines’ commitment to expanding electrified mobility options through its global Power of Choice strategy.

Autocar’s Take

The arrival of the BMW X5 xDrive50e xLine PHEV highlights how luxury automakers are making electrification more practical for everyday drivers. What makes this premium plug-in hybrid SUV particularly appealing is its ability to deliver a substantial electric driving range while retaining the flexibility of a gasoline engine for longer trips.

For Philippine buyers who are interested in sustainable mobility but are not yet ready to switch fully to an electric vehicle, the BMW X5 PHEV offers a compelling middle ground. It reflects a growing trend where performance, efficiency, convenience, and luxury no longer have to be mutually exclusive.
