MG Motor Philippines has partnered with En Tsumugi for the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of MG electric vehicle (EV) units that were gutted by fire last April 6, 2025.  The said partnership will implement responsible end-of-life management of EV components, particularly high-voltage (HV) batteries.

The fire-damaged MG EV units require specialized handling and disposal procedures in compliance with global environmental standards. As such, MG PH tapped En Tsumugi to ensure that all affected units are processed in a controlled and compliant manner, minimizing environmental impact while adhering to strict safety protocols.

En Tsumugi ELV Dismantling Corporation, located in Mexico, Pampanga, is recognized as the Philippines’ first model End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) dismantling facility. The partnership also marks the first-ever implementation in the local automotive industry involving the proper disposal and dismantling of EV units affected by a fire incident.

Of note, Toyota Motor Philippines also has a partnership with En Tsumugi. Toyota recently supported a specialized training program for En Tsumugi ELV Dismantler Corporation, which is focused on the safe handling and dismantling of batteries used in electrified vehicles. It was held in March 2026 in Aichi, Japan.

Going back to MG PH, the car brand held a ceremonial signing to seal its partnership with En Tsumugi. MG PH said that this also highlights its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), reinforcing its proactive approach in managing sensitive operational incidents while prioritizing environmental protection and public safety.

“Safety, responsibility, and sustainability remain at the core of MG’s operations. Through this partnership with En Tsumugi, we are ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to properly manage and dispose of affected EV units in a way that upholds the highest environmental and safety standards,” said MG Motor PH President Wei Wei Zhang.

As a review, last April 6, 2025, MG PH’s stockyard in Tanauan, Batangas, was affected by a fire that originated from a neighboring facility. Several MG units were affected by the incident, particularly the MG3 Hybrid and the MG4 EV, which are equipped with lithium-ion batteries.

Autocar’s Take

MG Motor PH wants to safely dispose of its fire-damaged EV units, as it partnered with En Tsumugi ELV Dismantling Corporation. This move shows that MG PH is taking the right steps in ensuring that all affected units are processed in a controlled and compliant manner, minimizing environmental impact while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Partnering with En Tsumugi is also a nice move from MG, as the former also has ties with Toyota, which further increases En Tsumugi’s credibility when it comes to safe EV disposal. Moreover, Toyota gave a specialized training program for En Tsumugi ELV Dismantler Corporation, which is focused on the safe handling and dismantling of batteries used in electrified vehicles.
