Lexus Philippines is placing the spotlight on its flagship electrified model, as the LX 700h is now on display at the Lexus Manila Gallery in BGC. More than just a showroom centerpiece, the model serves as a statement to how Lexus is evolving its full-size luxury SUV formula for a market that is steadily leaning toward electrification.

The LX has long been associated with presence, capability, and refinement. The LX 700h builds on that reputation with the addition of hybrid technology. As such, it is motivated by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a high-performance electric motor. It delivers a combined output of 341 hp. The hybrid powertrain introduces improved efficiency while preserving the strong, effortless performance expected from a flagship SUV.

For Lexus, the LX need not have to be radically changed just to keep up with the times. Instead of reinventing the model, Lexus has taken a measured approach. The LX 700h retains its core mechanical foundation, including a 10-speed automatic transmission, double wishbone front suspension, and a rigid rear axle. Off-road capability remains intact. This is supported by systems such as multi-terrain select, crawl control, downhill assist control, among others. The result is a familiar platform, enhanced with a more forward-looking powertrain.

The cabin continues to highlight Lexus’ focus on comfort and renowned Japanese craftsmanship. Buyers can choose from multiple configurations, including a seven-seat Premier, a five-seat F Sport, and a four-seat VIP variant. The latter stands out with ottoman seats in the second row, designed to deliver a more relaxed, chauffeur-driven experience. Moreover, a Mark Levinson 25-speaker sound system, rear entertainment screens, and a four-zone climate control system with Lexus climate concierge contribute to a highly tailored in-cabin environment.

The arrival of the LX 700h shows how Lexus is refining its direction to better match the different needs of its customers. While fully electric vehicles continue to gain ground, hybrids remain a sensible middle ground, particularly in segments where range, capability, and flexibility still matter most.

Autocar’s Take

What stands out about the LX 700h is not just the hybrid system, but the restraint behind it. Lexus did not attempt to reinvent its flagship SUV overnight. Rather, it refined what already works. Today, more than ever, buyers value consistency as much as innovation, and Lexus’ strategy with the LX 700h carries weight.

The luxury SUV is a response to real-world ownership, where efficiency matters but capability still comes first. It acknowledges that progress does not always require dramatic change. Sometimes, it is about making the right improvements in the right places, and doing so without losing the character that made the vehicle relevant to begin with.
