The Toyota Hilux was revealed earlier this year, eventually making its way to local showrooms with updated styling, additional technology, and its familiar diesel powertrain. That said, it won’t take long before Toyota pulls the curtains off its popular SUV sibling, the Fortuner.

And now, we know exactly when. According to a confirmation by Toyota’s subsidiary in South Africa, the next-generation Toyota Fortuner is scheduled to make its global debut on December 1, 2026.

The current-generation Fortuner has been around since 2015, and while its age hasn’t significantly hurt its popularity, a proper redesign is overdue. The seven-seat SUV remains a familiar sight on Philippine roads, where its mix of practicality, diesel performance, and rugged styling continues to appeal to families and buyers seeking a capable sport utility vehicle.

If the early reports and spy shots are anything to go by, the next Fortuner is in for a serious makeover inside and out. Expect sharper lines inspired by the latest Hilux, but Toyota will definitely want to give the SUV its own personality so it doesn’t just look like a Hilux with a roof.

The cabin could also receive a major overhaul, potentially featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera on higher variants. Toyota Safety Sense technology and additional driver-assistance features are also expected.

Under the skin, the Fortuner should stick with its trusty IMV ladder-frame platform, but expect some tweaks to the suspension for a smoother ride and better handling.

Under the hood, expect the usual suspects: the 2.4-liter and 2.8-liter turbodiesel engines should stick around. Some versions might even get a 48-volt mild-hybrid boost, just like what we’ve seen in the latest Hilux in other markets.

Despite the presence of a Hilux BEV, an all-electric Fortuner has not been confirmed, so buyers shouldn’t expect a battery-powered version to arrive alongside the conventional models just yet.

When will the New Fortuner reach the Philippines?

For the Philippines, we’re expecting a setup similar to the new Hilux. But Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is still keeping quiet on the specs, prices, and when we’ll actually see it in showrooms.

Of note, just because the global reveal is set for December 1 doesn’t mean we’ll see the new Fortuner in local dealerships right away. Other markets are expected to get it in 2027, and our local launch will probably land around the same time, depending on Toyota’s game plan.

For now, prospective buyers will have to wait for an official announcement from TMP before making any decisions.

Autocar’s Take

It’s about time Toyota gave the Fortuner a much-needed update. It’s a popular nameplate, especially here in the Philippines, where it remains one of the top choices for buyers looking for a seven-seat SUV with a reputation for durability and strong resale value.

Then again, timing will be crucial. We aren’t expecting the new Fortuner to arrive before Christmas, so here’s a practical tip: if you’re planning to get one, you might want to save those Christmas bonuses and 13th- or 14th-month paychecks.

If we had to guess, the new Fortuner could land sometime early next year, but Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything for the Philippines yet. If you’ve been holding out for the latest model, it might be smart to wait until December’s reveal gives us a better idea of what’s in store.
