Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Mitsubishi) has been releasing teasers for the upcoming next-generation Pajero since early this year. Now, the Japanese automaker is ready to unveil what it has been working on, as it announced that the next-generation Pajero would be making its world premiere on September 2, 2026.
Mitsubishi has consistently been sharing that the all-new Pajero is designed to be a capable and true off-road vehicle, with mentions of living up to its legacy as a Dakar Rally legend. The Pajero gave Mitsubishi its Dakar off-road credentials as it secured 12 overall victories, including seven consecutive wins. More than the trophies and accolades, Mitsubishi said that its participation at the Dakar Rally is driven by a goal of achieving “absolute peace of mind reliability.”
With that, Mitsubishi proudly states that its experience and notable performance at the Dakar Rally helped the brand in shaping the Pajero’s DNA. With an unmatched Dakar legacy, Mitsubishi said that the Pajero is ready to write its next chapter, and that new chapter will begin to unfold as the next-generation 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero makes its global debut next week.
Guided by its Dakar roots and influenced by the previous-generation model, Mitsubishi Chief Product Specialist for Product Planning Kunitoshi Itagaki said the core question during the development phase was: “What defines the true essence of a Pajero?” Itagaki shared that the goal was to ensure that regardless of modernization, the new model retains the unmistakable feel and trust of a genuine Pajero.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Chief Vehicle Engineer Takaaki Matsumoto added that they intend to make the all-new model an SUV that can honor the Pajero’s legacy while evolving it for a new era. Matsumoto said that the essence of the Pajero “extends beyond exceptional off-road capability. It also involves delivering long-distance comfort, providing confidence in any driving situation, and expanding the possibilities of where people can go.”
So far, the Japanese automaker has revealed that the next-gen Pajero is built to deliver true off-road capability, offering confident driving across a wide range of weather and road conditions, while also offering a refined and smooth ride. To do just that, the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero will be integrated with a heavy-duty and durable ladder frame chassis, giving the vehicle the capability to drive through rough and harsh terrain.
It will also come with a tri-gauge meter, a feature that’s regarded by many, such as car enthusiasts, as an iconic or classic Pajero component.
