Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has wrapped up an exhilarating 2024 season of its premier motorsports series, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup). Showcasing outstanding performances across all classes, winners emerged after a season of intense competition: Iñigo Anton from Toyota Balintawak – Obengers Racing Team, back-to-back champion Alain Alzona from Toyota General Santos – Chooks-To-Go Racing Team, consistent top performer Bong Garbes from Inbox – Toyota San Fernando, and sim racer turned track competitor Russel Reyes from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing PH.

The final race weekend, held on November 9, concluded with the announcement of the season’s overall champions.

As the opening program commenced, drumbeats set the stage, and TMP President Masando Hashimoto made a memorable arrival in his Vios one-make-race (OMR) car. Addressing the crowd, he shared his excitement about returning early from a business trip to Manila to attend the TGR Philippine Cup’s last race weekend.

“I wanted to meet the racers, mechanics, coaches, and motorsports fans – this is my motivation for coming back. Today is the last race weekend of the TGR Philippine Cup, where we’ll crown the season’s champions, so I wanted to congratulate them personally,” Hashimoto remarked.

The event kicked off with the high-stakes Sprint Race for the Novice and Promotional classes, with pole positions held by Lexi Mendiola and Johndale Dy, respectively. Racing intensified as Pablo Salapantan took first place in the Novice Class, followed by John Rey San Diego in second and Russel Reyes in third. In the Promotional Class, Bong Garbes clinched the top spot, with Ryan Agoncillo in second after a grid penalty, and Dy in third.

Next came the Sprint Race for the Sporting and Super Sporting classes. Danzel Waytan converted his pole position into a victory in the Sporting Class, joined on the podium by Jay Lao in second and Alain Alzona in third. Meanwhile, in the Super Sporting Class, Russel Cabrera took the lead early and maintained it, finishing ahead of Mikey Keilani Jordan and Iñigo Anton in a closely contested race.

A highlight for fans, professional drifters Dane Cruz and Hans Jimenez delivered an adrenaline-pumping drifting exhibition, even treating a few lucky audience members to thrilling shotgun rides. The GR Supra, GR Yaris, and GR 86 car clubs also showcased their cars on the track, offering guests hot laps around the speedway.

All classes were brought together for a final showdown in the Endurance Race, a 1.5-hour test of both skill and strategy. Temperatures and mandatory pit stops added to the challenge, pushing racers to their limits. In the Super Sporting Class, Iñigo Anton executed a series of brilliant overtakes to secure first place, followed by Russel Cabrera in second and Maila Alivia in third. Alain Alzona topped the Sporting Class, with Jesse Garcia and Paolo Ayo completing the podium. Bong Garbes dominated the Promotional Class, while Julia Delos Angeles and Ryan Agoncillo rounded out the top three. In the Novice Class, Jamil Lacuna took first, followed by Reph Bangsil and Russel Reyes.

Closing out the weekend, Filipino band The Juans energized the audience with a live performance, celebrating the end of an exciting season.

The TGR Philippine Cup’s 2024 season saw three race weekends, with champions determined through points accumulated across six sprint races and three endurance races. At the end-of-season awards, TMP President Hashimoto applauded all participants.
