Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has opened Rookie Racing Garage Manila along Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City, giving Filipino motorsports enthusiasts a dedicated space to connect with a racing culture that extends beyond the racetrack.
Located near the Met Parking facility, the establishment brings the Japanese Rookie Racing concept to the Philippines. Its inauguration was attended by TMP Chairman Alfred Ty, President Masando Hashimoto, Sherwin ChuaLim and other Toyota executives.
The facility draws inspiration from Rookie Racing, the Japanese motorsports team associated with Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda, better known in racing circles as Morizo. His philosophy centers on using motorsports as a way to develop better cars, technologies and people.
For Toyoda, competitive racing is more than a sporting pursuit. The challenges encountered on the track provide valuable lessons that can influence the development of production vehicles. Rookie Racing carries that thinking beyond professional competition by creating spaces where automotive enthusiasts can exchange ideas, learn about technology and build connections through their shared passion.
TMP sees the Manila establishment as an opportunity to bring this philosophy closer to local enthusiasts. Rather than functioning solely as an automotive destination, the garage is envisioned as a community hub centered on camaraderie, learning and continuous improvement.

The Philippines also joins Rookie Racing’s growing international presence in Asia, following the establishment of a similar garage presence in Taiwan.
Its arrival complements TMP’s existing motorsports activities, particularly the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup. The local racing series has provided Filipino drivers with opportunities to develop their skills through organized, one-make competition.
Toyota has also announced plans to introduce a dedicated GR86 racing category for the 2027 season, adding another dimension to its Philippine motorsports program.
With Rookie Racing Garage Manila, Toyota is extending its motorsports involvement beyond organizing races and developing drivers. The concept also recognizes the role of enthusiasts, technicians and communities in building a stronger automotive culture.
The new facility gives Filipino fans a physical connection to a Japanese racing identity shaped by Toyoda’s personal involvement in motorsports. It also provides another avenue for TMP to bring its Gazoo Racing philosophy closer to the local automotive community.
For Toyota, the idea is straightforward: motorsports should not be limited to those competing on the track. It should also create opportunities for people who share an interest in cars, driving and automotive development.

Autocar’s Take
Racing culture does not grow through competitions alone. It also needs places where enthusiasts can meet, exchange ideas and develop a deeper appreciation for what happens behind the wheel. That is where Rookie Racing Garage Manila could make a difference. Toyota Philippines already has an established motorsports platform through the Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup, and this new facility adds a community-oriented dimension to those efforts. The real measure of its success, however, will be how actively it engages local enthusiasts. If it becomes a genuine meeting place for people who love cars, it will have accomplished something worthwhile.
