Suzuki Jimny now safer than ever – Will the updates arrive locally?

The cute Jimny is easily one of Suzuki Philippines’ most recognizable models. Its small size, boxy charm, and off-road capability have given it a cult following here. But as capable and characterful as it is, the Jimny has long lagged behind newer crossovers in active safety. Features like lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control have been missing – until now.

Suzuki began rolling out a more advanced Jimny in Japan, equipped with updated preventive safety features. The move finally brings the mini off-roader closer to the standards of newer vehicles, addressing a major gap that fans have pointed out for years. These updates were leaked in July, so it’s high time that they start rolling out in production.

The updated model now includes collision mitigation braking and Dual Sensor Brake Support II for improved crash avoidance. Lane departure prevention is now standard, while adaptive cruise control with full-speed tracking has been added to 4-speed automatic variants. Suzuki also introduced a rear false-start prevention system that helps prevent sudden unintended acceleration from a stop.

Beyond safety, the Jimny now supports Suzuki Connect, allowing for better vehicle monitoring and remote functions. This feature isn’t found locally yet, not even in the newly introduced Fronx. Cybersecurity measures were also upgraded to comply with evolving regulations, alongside refinements to headlight standards. On the convenience front, higher trims get LED room lamps, and the driver’s display now uses an LCD meter for clearer readouts.

Of note, there isn’t any update with the Jimny’s design, or whether the 5-door model will get the updated set of advanced safety features.

According to Suzuki Auto Philippines, the updates to the Jimny will eventually arrive here. The question now is the timing.

“There will indeed be a transition, but as to when it will be delivered to the Philippines is something we don’t know yet and may not be anytime soon. This will likewise affect the price, but will definitely be taken up carefully by then. Thank you,” the representative told Autocar Philippines.

For reference, the current Philippine lineup is priced as follows:
Jimny GL MT – P1,258,000
Jimny GLX AT – P1,320,000
Jimny GLX AT Two-Tone – P1,330,000
Jimny GLX AT Rhino Edition – P1,331,000
