Subaru Uncharted is an entry-level EV that’s perfect for PH

Aside from prestigious rally cars like the Legacy and Impreza at the hands of Colin McRae, Subaru is always known for its off-roaders, from wagons like the Outback and even SUVs like the award-winning Forester and Crosstrek. And for the latter? We now get to see an electrified flavor of that tried-and-true off-road grit.

Recently, Subaru USA announced a new electric crossover SUV, the Uncharted, coming in early next year stateside. It’s meant to deliver that signature Subaru off-road fun, but with an electrified twist.

Powering the Uncharted is a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery also found in the Solterra and Trailseeker, but how much power it makes and where that power is sent depends on the model, from 221 hp being sent to the front wheels in the “Premium FWD” model to 338 hp to all four corners in both the “Sport” and “GT” variants. Either way, the Premium will have a range of 300 miles or 482 kilometers when converted to metric, while both the Sport and GT will have a range of 285 miles or 458 kilometers.

But the real heart of the Subaru Uncharted? Electrified off-road capability. This comes in the form of 8.2 inches of ground clearance, an all-weather package, and if we were to draw comparisons with the Solterra, the Toyota bZ4x’s twin, the Uncharted has more off-road maneuverability by way of a turning radius similar to the Crosstrek, being almost 7 inches shorter, and offers more trunk space than the Solterra, all in a smaller package.

Pricing for the Uncharted in the United States starts at $34,995 (or just shy of P2.1M) for the Premium FWD, all the way up to $43,795 (under P2.6M). Despite that, as it stands right now, there have yet to be talks of bringing the Uncharted over here to the Philippines.

With the adoption of electrification running rampant here in the Philippines, Off-road enthusiasts in the Philippines are spoiled for choice—from BYD’s Shark 6 DM-O to Subaru’s own hybridized Forester. Whether you’re tackling muddy trails, climbing rocks, or just craving the thrill of the unknown, there’s something for everyone: the rugged Land Cruiser, the iconic Jeep Wrangler, the playful Jimny, or newer electrified options like the e-Boxer hybrid. If the Uncharted ever makes its way here, it would definitely give the off-road scene in the Philippines much-appreciated electrified diversity and flavor.
