Philippine auto sales went down in August 2026, according to the data shared by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc. (TMA). CAMPI said that its member car brands reported total sales of 29,611 units sold, which is 21 percent lower than the 37,319 units sold in July 2026.
Meanwhile, total car sales in the Philippines last August, including the estimates from non-CAMPI car brand members, totaled 34,390 units sold, which is lower than the July numbers of 42,880 units.
CAMPI said that the drop in automotive sales is a short-term disruption caused by the August weather conditions. CAMPI remains optimistic that demand will rebound as operating conditions normalize.
“We’re still optimistic that vehicle sales will bounce back over the next few months through year-end. The August dip appears to be a short-term disruption rather than a reversal of market momentum,” said CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza.

Toyota has once again shown its dominance when you look at CAMPI’s August 2026 car sales data, as it cornered 49.3 percent market share in August with 14,594 units sold. Toyota’s closest rival last month was Mitsubishi, which posted 3,570 units sold. Completing the top three CAMPI member car brands in August 2026 is Suzuki with 1,350 units sold. The fourth spot is occupied by Honda with 1,097 units sold, and Ford completes the top five with 930 units sold.
On the other hand, VinFast has secured the top spot for the battery electric vehicle (BEV) category in August 2026 with 749 units sold. VinFast’s rival in August was not Tesla, as Omoda & Jaecoo took second place with 575 units sold. Recently, Omoda & Jaecoo announced that it is offering free replacement for electric vehicle (EV) batteries that drop below 70 percent health.
In the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) category, it is Jetour Auto that clinched the best-selling brand in August 2026. It registered 486 units sold in August 2026, which is a better number compared to its July performance of 480 units sold. Jetour Auto Philippines intends to carry its sales momentum, as it announced that it will be expanding its dealer network further.

Autocar’s Take
Local auto sales went down in August, which was brought about by the weather conditions experienced last month, according to CAMPI. Despite registering a 21 percent decrease in sales, CAMPI remains hopeful that the local automotive market will recover in the coming months. The probability of this is high as the country enters “ber” months, wherein most local consumers have extra money due to bonuses and 13th month pay. As such, having a consumer with more buying power can lead to actual vehicle sales.
