The adverse effects of three consecutive typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong, and the presence of the southwest monsoon (“habagat”) have submerged many parts of Luzon and Metro Manila. Many communities have been seriously affected by massive flooding – lives lost, properties damaged, livelihoods destroyed.
To help out, NLEX Corporation (NLEX) mobilized relief operations and donation drives to flood-affected local government units or LGUs along its expressway network. The tollway operator gathered up its resources and headed out to areas, particularly along the NLEX-SCTEX and NLEX Connector corridors.
Valenzuela, Manila, and Quezon City were among the hardest-hit areas reached out by the NLEX frontliners.

Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian received 160 boxes of canned goods and 250 boxes of instant noodles from NLEX. On the other hand, the corporation donated 50 sacks of rice to Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso for distribution to communities in Tondo, Sampaloc, Sta. Cruz, and Sta. Mesa. Another 50 sacks of rice were also turned over to the Quezon City LGU to aid in its ongoing relief operations.
NLEX also extended its relief operations to places outside of Metro Manila. These include communities in Guiguinto and Marilao in Bulacan. Of note, NLEX is eyeing to help out around 8 LUGs and at least 79 barangays along its road network.
As the heavy rain and flooding continued, NLEX didn’t skimp on its mission to provide assistance. It also focused on affected motorists, most especially those who were left stranded along its expressway network. They were given food and drinking water.

While NLEX Corporation is primarily known for its infrastructure and traffic operations, the past few weeks have seen its role as a community partner during times of crisis. NLEX says it will continue its relief operations, and is prepared to do so, seeing the onset of more heavy rain in weeks to come.
