MG announced that it aims to equip its next-generation vehicles with smarter and more efficient technology. The car brand presented a roadmap that includes its future product roll-out, which is seen to bring advanced electrification and intelligent driving technologies to a wider audience.

MG said that it will be introducing a next-generation of MG Plug-in Hybrid+, MG SolidCore Battery technology, and a new phase of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) development. The brand shared that the new tech will make its next-gen vehicles more efficient, more intelligent, and safer.

First on the list is that MG will be introducing an all-new system called Plug-in Hybrid+. This tech is said to integrate advanced mechanical engineering with intelligent electrification to deliver enhanced efficiency, responsive performance, and exceptional refinement. In other words, MG wants to make its next-gen models run more smoothly. The Plug-in Hybrid+ system uses new hybrid gasoline engines that come in 1.1-liter turbocharged and 1.5-liter turbocharged variants.

Working in conjunction with the new engines is an all-new hybrid transmission integrating two core technologies: Power Split and Motor Decoupling. The Power Split tech distributes power between the engine and electric motors, which is said to optimize energy flow in response to driving inputs. Meanwhile, Motor Decoupling tech introduces a dedicated disconnect mechanism that completely isolates the generator during pure electric driving, maximizing electric drive efficiency.

With the said tech, MG said that its next-gen models can go from zero to 100 km/h in less than six seconds. The first car to get this new system will be the MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+, which is scheduled to launch in 2027.

Future Plug-in Hybrid+ models will also come integrated with the new MG SolidCore Battery, which is said to further enhance the efficiency, capability, and usability of its next-generation electrified powertrains. It is developed around an advanced semi-solid-state architecture incorporating a 3D spinel structure. As a result, MG claims that the SolidCore Battery delivers higher energy conversion efficiency and faster power response than conventional liquid-electrolyte batteries.

The first MG Plug-in Hybrid+ models to feature SolidCore Battery technology will be three new SUVs in the B (subcompact), C (compact), and D (midsize) segment categories, further expanding the company’s next generation of electrified vehicles.

On the other hand, MG’s ADAS tech is said to be designed to deliver reliable driver assistance. One key feature that MG shared is the One Touch iAD parking assistant. This system can locate open parking spaces and park the car automatically.

MG said that it has been developed to support real-world parking situations, covering more than 30 complex scenarios and more than 300 parking space types, including unmarked bays.  It can also help drivers park perfectly next to a curb, pull out of tight spaces, and reverse safely down narrow paths.

MG also plans to launch Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) in late 2027. The NOA is being developed to help drivers on highways by assisting with lane changes, overtaking, and entering or exiting the road under the driver’s supervision. It will debut on a new MG SUV, scheduled for launch in late 2027. MG is also testing fully autonomous Level 4 Robotaxis in Europe, China, and the Middle East to prepare for the future of travel.

Autocar’s Take

MG wants to make its next-generation vehicles smarter and more efficient. This is significant since MG’s intention to further improve its vehicles is a good sign, as the car brand envisions offering better-equipped vehicles. It plans on introducing a next-generation of MG Plug-in Hybrid+, MG SolidCore Battery technology, and a new phase of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) development. As such, we can see that MG is developing technologies that are designed to make driving easier, safer, and more enjoyable. Moreover, the brand is focused on ensuring that every new feature delivers genuine value to customers.
