Isuzu Philippines Corporation (ICP) has expressed its support for government fleet modernization with its turnover of 205 new truck units to the Philippine Army. The gesture was made official in a recent handover ceremony held last March 31, 2026 at Camp General Servillano A. Aquino in Tarlac City.
Led by IPC Executive Vice President Yasuhiko Oyama alongside Philippine Army officials, including Major General Florante Piol Sison, the Japanese brand presented 117 Isuzu NPS light-duty trucks and 88 Isuzu FTS medium-duty trucks. All units are configured with troop carrier bodies for transporting personnel, equipment, and essential cargo across a range of operational scenarios, including disaster response and recovery missions.
Both models come with 4×4 drivetrains for improved mobility over rough terrain and in remote areas where accessibility is limited. This capability is seen as critical for enhancing the Army’s operational readiness, particularly in geographically challenging environments such as mountainous areas and river crossings.

The Isuzu NPS units are powered by the tried-and-true 4HK1-TCN Blue Power diesel engine. The NPS’ compact design allows for better maneuverability in both urban and rural environments. On the other hand, the Isuzu FTS trucks are equipped with a 6HK1-TCN engine, providing the capability needed for heavier loads and long-distance operations.
IPC says that all the vehicles handed over are Euro IV-compliant to align with current global environmental standards while supporting sustainable government operations. Meanwhile, the troop carrier bodies were built by F. Cura Industries, known for durable configurations suited for demanding use.
The brand emphasized that the trucks are backed by its nationwide dealer network, ensuring access to after-sales services and spare parts availability. This support is expected to help maintain vehicle uptime and long-term operational efficiency.
“Isuzu has long been a trusted partner of various industries and institutions in the country, supporting mobility and progress. Today, we are honored to extend this role in contributing to national defense by providing vehicles that will support the Philippine Army in fulfilling its mission to serve and protect the Filipino people,” shared IPC Executive Vice President Yasuhiko Oyama.
Autocar’s Take
Fleet modernization often focuses on numbers, but capability matters more. In this case, Isuzu’s delivery addresses both. The combination of light- and medium-duty 4×4 trucks provides operational flexibility across different mission types, from troop movement to disaster response. The inclusion of nationwide after-sales support is equally critical, as uptime determines real-world effectiveness.
While the turnover is substantial, sustained impact will depend on maintenance discipline and integration into the army logistics systems. Still, this move represents a necessary step toward improving the Philippine Army’s mobility and readiness.
