Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) brought home two awards from the recently concluded 22nd Philippine Quill Awards, earning recognition for communication initiatives tied to corporate social responsibility and government relations.

The awards highlight two different areas of MMPC’s work, from developing future automotive technicians to supporting the company’s push toward local hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) manufacturing.

MMPC’s “DRIVE: Developing Ready Industry Vehicle Experts” received an Excellence Award under the Corporate Social Responsibility category. The program centers on the company’s OJT Technician Program, which focuses on learning and skills development while helping ensure employment opportunities for automotive students at dealerships.

The recognition puts attention on an area that is particularly important to the automotive industry: developing people who can keep pace with changing vehicle technology and the evolving requirements of the sector.

MMPC also received a Merit Award under the Government Relations and Public Affairs category for its stakeholder communication management program, “Two Roads, One Destination: Paving the Way for Local HEV Manufacturing in the Philippines.”

The winning entry detailed the communication efforts instrumental in opening what MMPC described as its electrification chapter, particularly in relation to local HEV manufacturing.

Together, the two awards reflect different aspects of MMPC’s activities beyond vehicle production and distribution. One focuses on developing automotive professionals, while the other highlights communication and stakeholder engagement surrounding the company’s electrification efforts.

The Philippine Quill Awards, organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), is regarded as one of the country’s leading programs recognizing excellence in business communication. It honors communication programs and professionals for their effectiveness, impact, and ability to deliver meaningful results for stakeholders and communities.

For MMPC, the latest recognition reinforces its continuing efforts to develop future automotive professionals, strengthen stakeholder partnerships, and contribute to the advancement of the Philippine automotive industry.

MMPC has been operating in the Philippines since 1963 and describes itself as the country’s longest-operating automotive company. It operates a 23-hectare manufacturing facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units. The facility manufactures the Mirage G4 and L300.

The company said the awards further reflect its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and responsible corporate citizenship as it continues to participate in the changing Philippine automotive landscape.

Autocar’s Take

MMPC’s two Philippine Quill Awards recognitions are noteworthy because they highlight areas of the automotive business that do not always get the same attention as new vehicle launches. Developing technicians through the DRIVE program addresses a very real need for skilled automotive professionals, while the HEV manufacturing initiative points to the industry’s gradual shift toward electrification.

More importantly, both programs show how an automaker’s impact can extend beyond the vehicles it sells. For MMPC, strengthening technical talent and building stakeholder support for local HEV manufacturing could prove increasingly important as the Philippine automotive industry moves toward a more electrified future.
